My crutch was insects, reptiles and space exploration. I didn't have an HO-scale train set until I was 12, and after meeting a couple 40 year old men at the train store who were OBVIOUSLY on the spectrum, I wanted nothing more to do with it.
My oldest is high-functioning ADHD. He could have given a TED Talk on Bionicle. One of the Netflix "The Toys That Made Us" episodes covered LEGO and when they took a chance at a kit line that actually had an extensive backstory.
I CAN live with it.

To an autistic person, it is the normies that are disabled! I am 49, and still learning new tidbits on how much of human effort is just completely wasted on "being social?" I guess. One example: I miss a phone call from a friend of mine and call him back a few minutes later - he is already on the phone with somebody else? I mean he is literally on the phone every second I guess? I have gone whole decades without making a single phone call :D

My daughter's new partner is Neurodivergent and I had the pleasure of hosting them for 2 weeks at my place for the holidays. He is a breath of fresh air, he cooks, he cleans, he offered and did some work around the house and garden. His big interests are gardening and Quantum Physics. We did learn that he doesn't understand jokes so the 3 of us came up with winking when it was a joke so he could laugh along with us. I love him to bits and he calls me mum.
