But the bandwagon...

Actually no, it is engagement by the non-lurkers, but lurkers are most definitely cutting back on their activity with site as there is nothing to see. The boobs posts were also good, people will stop visiting casually at work as the site was NSFW. Page clicks are important, sure profiled users are still mucking around but the much longer casual base will be tunning out. notice how most posts have no comments, front page posts usually have tons of comments, not today.

It's like when morons on Facebook express their negative opinion, not realizing that they're increasing engagement statistics for the given post.

For imgur, it'd be a lot better to post those basic colored squares you get when the media doesn't load. Everyone would just assume it was broken again.

Much better to flood the site with boobs etc, as it'll stop people browsing publicly (engagement goes down) & get advertisers thinking this is a pr0n site.

Some advertisers don't like it and will complain and it keeps moderation busy with going through the posts to please the advertisers

It's actually done a great job of helping highlight real posts.

I counter argue that you're primarily against the reduction in boob posting

If you want to hurt them, get every imgurian you know to start using ad blockers. There are options for desktop, as well as Android & iPhone devices. That's the "Kryptonite" these people are looking for. Instead of spamming tits, black bars, and nsfw stuff, spam EASY instructions on how to exterminate ads on select devices.

On pretty much every site the majority of users aren't posting or commenting, they just look at it for the content they want to see. Those people aren't coming here for blank posts, and some of them will assume that the site is failing to load.

It does when ickose the app because of all the black images.

I close*

Complaining about the black images is also site engagement. Now what?

Works a lot better as a deterrent than posting large breasted women though.

That depends on who you want to deter. Other people, sure. Advertisements and medialab mods, no. It keeps the mods busy trying to block stuff to please the advertisers

Actually it does. It would do even more damage if all the blank posts mad the front page.

Man/woman up and use adblock like a hero.
