#41 the immediate scale my brain processed this at was way off. I saw that as a river, THEN saw the guy, and thought "Jesus Christ that dude is huge."

#14 Isn’t the lack of marriageable young women the fault of the older generations who prioritized having boys instead of girls due to China’s one child policy? It spaced from 1980-2016.
Dakksys
#14 That would be a great time to remind the Chinese Grandmas that they spent decades aborting or exporting all of the girls so they could have a precious boy due to the one-child policy.

@deafkitten, once again, the wtf-prod/dickbutt.pics scammers are trolling your post comments with their scammy links. You may want to add a warning again.

American dental care seems complicated

I am really confused. I watched Odyssey. It is not good. It is dark, moody and both to long and missing a lot of cool stuff. Are you all just miserable or don't you know greek epics are colourful and full of epic instead of a depressed monologing over the same flash back over and over
themuffulettaisalsoaverygoodsandwich
of all the movies that have just zero appeal for me, the odyssey is one of them. hard pass even it was good.
eathotdog
The average person is perfectly content with medroticy and enough.
LaronX
I mean fair point, but it just was drap and boring and has an online resonance as if it was a masterpiece.

It is indeed. Check out the link I posted for more info.

Fuck no! I recognize THE STRID! No way am I even looking at that picture too closely, let alone getting near IRL.

#13 lifehack: Don't listen to voicemails. If it's really important, it isn't. Grow up, move on. Everything is temporary. Everyone is temporary.
Snuggelapolous
My voice mail box has been full for atleast 5 years. And I have no plans to clear it out.
RevRagnarok
My outgoing message on my cell is something like "if you know me, you know better ways to contact me." It's been full and untouched for at least a decade.
maskedrabbit
My voicemail is where important information and appointments go to die
IHaveGreatKittenRecipes
I remember a childhood where if you had an answering machine you were rich or damned important. If I called my friend and no one answered, *no one there knew to call back*. You had a much more ephemeral connection with people outside your immediate social circle and it was *so nice*.

Thanks DK.

Heh. I love Matt Damon, but sometimes it's hard to believe he grew up in Boston.
SigilLovesSpace
#35 that’s a Columbus area code. I hate living in Ohio.
TomBrokaw
Hey man, Gummo was set (and filmed, I think) in Xenia, so that's at least one good thing from Ohio
Irishtrailrunner
I lived in toledo for a few years.
It sucked
WolfFromTheTVShowFutureMan
anobviousthrowawayaccountduh
I didn't even register because I'm used to all the numbers I see having a 614 area code. I think Ohio is ok. It's all the people in it that suck.
gaggedandgooped
I grew up in Missouri and left as soon as I could. You can leave Ohio too.
WillUleimi
I definitely feel like my life would be more fulfilled in different ways if I lived in a bigger city out of Ohio, and I could pretty easily transfer anywhere with my job.
But the problem is my pay would remain the same. My salary goes a hell of a lot further here in Ohio, and I rather enjoy my comfortable life.
SigilLovesSpace
I feel like if it’s not one of the “corner” states (NY, Cali, Florida, Washington) the prices wouldn’t be too different

Best thing to do in Ohio? Leave

#13 keep this mentality with medical debt. Do not respond to anything.
METROlD
They can’t keep their shit straight. They bill me multiple times for the same thing, they often can’t even tell me what I am paying for or provide an itemized statement. And the collectors themselves will tell you not paying won’t affect your credit. Fuck that. If you want me to swipe my card at least get your shit straight.
MelfsAcidArrow
I work in healthcare as a compliance officer and I can tell you this is 100% correct.
os10
This is The Way.
I am the the one who ghosts all medical bills
Concern Me, they do not
HarperLee
I had an ER visit a couple years ago and I'm pretty sure my insurance paid everything and I definitely paid my share. Got a letter a week or two ago asking me to fill out their uninsured patient forms so they could see if I qualified for a bill reduction. Haven't heard from them since 2024, but they seem to think I have an outstanding bill?
Snuggelapolous
Did you pay before or after the procedure? If before, they only provide an estimate of coverage. It can change depending on the details of the actual procedure.
HarperLee
No, nothing while I was there. I got the first bill a month or so later
KingofFools
the terms "Cease and Desist" and "stop harassing me" are magic when it comes to debt collectors.
sauronater
Yup.. between medical debt and credit card debt (had emergency surgery, couldn't work, had to live off credit.. now making 60% less than I was), I can get up to 25 calls in a day.. usually from 2 companies. Fuck them all.
graehall
that's fucking insane, I'm so sorry you had to endure that
os10
Bro set up your phone to screen out any calls from numbers not in ur contacts list. Life changing
sauronater
Maybe once I find a better job. Got to keep my phone open for interviews and such. Thanks for the tip though
SigilLovesSpace
I usually block and report them as spam lol
bearstrap
I've had luck with "Are you in possession of the original documents with my signature on them? If you are, please mail them to me so that I can review."
Because otherwise... illegal attempt to collect a debt. They back out QUICK and it never comes up again
copperdomebodhi
Always, always, always do this. I told a debt collector once I needed documentation. They sent a letter that read, "Please send us this much money," and no documentation. Didn't respond, never heard from them again.
MattoJanai
That doesn't always work. If it's a cheap bill they usually give up eventually. If it's a big bill they'll sell it to a debt collector who will sue you and garnish your wages. That happened to me once with an ER bill
SigilLovesSpace
My personal belief is that I owe the original company the debt, not a collector that bought it for pennies on the dollar. Medical debt doesn’t affect credit anymore and if a debt collector is reaching out, it means they’ve already sold the worth they wanted out of it to the collector so there’s no point
Godawful8888
Trump changed that, I believe. Medical debt now (or soon will) affect credit scores
SigilLovesSpace
Mmmmmm…. Oh well. I’m dying on this hill I guess.
ardinmcallister
I'm with you dude. They made it impossible to afford health insurance for me.
Verk80
I can think of someone else that should die on that, or any number of other hills 🤷♂️
SidonisAntares
How well does that work in a world of electronic signatures and vocal confirmation of consent to care?
Einstein9073
I tell debt collectors, " I do not do business with debt collectors." And then when they say but we have a debt from blah blah blah, I reply do you have a contract signed by me personally with my name in ink? "
And then they stammer and stutter, and then I repeat " I do not do business with collectors. Do not call me again. " and then I hang up.
bearstrap
It actually works out pretty well - because the entity trying to collect has to have in their possession whatever passes as the original documents with the original debtor's signature or equivalent.
And if all they did was purchase the /account/ but not the /records/ then they're not in possession of the original documentation, and it's illegal.
Plus, if you use those magic words, they'll often decide you're too big of a pain in the ass to deal with even IF they have the documentation.
GatDangHippies
That last bit is important. There are specific phrases you can say that will instantly put you on a debt collectors "do not call" list... until the debt is bought by a new collector.
What exactly those phrases are can vary, so I'd look them up for your state as well as the type of debt they're after. This does not make the debt disappear, however, so keep that in mind
