When we went to Little Caesar's restaurant and they had a big projection TV playing The Three Stooges on a loop, we loved that. We didn't say "Oh where's the big wooden console?!" No, we said that big TV is awesome!
Then there are people like me, who consider minimalism as the height of elegance. Not only would I not want this in my home, it would likely be one of the first things I'd get rid of.
This is the kind of thing someone spends my money on thinking it increases the value of the house, then get upset when people trying to buy their house say they should get a discount for needing to waste money ripping it out.
Saying minimalism is dead misses the whole point. Minimalism is an avenue to purposefulness. It isn't meant to cause suffering. Keep what preserves you. I like the concept of this, and appreciate the craftsmanship of it. I'd be down for something similar that fits the aesthetics in my home.
Minimalism is also co-opted by the rich who can afford to keep their house clean because they have several houses and never spend time in any of them, so they don't need them to be actually livable and can decorate with pure geometry. That said, maximalism has its own problems with capitalist culture prioritizing 'stuff'. You just can't win, do what feels nice. I myself prefer tchotchkes, loads of plants and deep color/texture over not having anything personal.
Also saying “minimalism is dead” in this economy is quite a choice. I get they are talking about an artistic style, but idk how much people like gaudy during a recession.

I have had to take the old tube guts out of our 50 year old Zenith and stick the 27” TCL in there just because we don’t have a wall big enough for something larger and she needs the display space on top of the old cabinet. It’s a seasonally revolving thing. Valentine’s Day, St Patrick’s Day, Easter, etc., plus the generational hand me downs.
+1 for cool factor... but I consider this an "art" installation to admire for a moment. In my home I would consider it a cumbersome eyesore that forsakes functionality for an aesthetic that I don't particularly care for.

I love me some woodgrain too, but something about that specific shade just makes me think of shag carpets and avocado-colored appliances. also I don't think I'd want any shade of woodgrain on my walls...it's just a LOT. I like to use it more as an accent (for instance, my turntable is basically a solid plank of walnut and that makes it really stand out around the rest of the solid black stereo components)

Ive often thought there might be a market for like a 24" 4:3 640x480i LCD with extra analog hookups, but idk if anyone is making panels that low density with good refresh rates.
The old games were designed for lower resolutions and playing them on newer tvs makes them look like dog shit whereas they actually look pretty good on the resolution they were designed for. My husband has converters and other hardware to mimic the older look on our newer tv since we don't have a CRT tv, but the trade off is input delays. Basically, new tvs make NES game graphics look way worse than you'd think a 480p game should look. At least, this is how my sleep deprived ass understands it.
