I'm a living Rapunzel.
I was verbally and emotionally abused by my father from when I was 10 years old. He taught me that the world is dangerous and something to be feared, that every person is a threat, that I was pathetic and ungrateful if I ever tried to object or defy him. I was taught to be 'perfect', to keep up the appearances of a happy family when everyone was falling apart. I was taught that anything short of an A was a failure and a disappointment. I learned that everything was my fault, that I always had to be sorry, or else I was 'ungrateful'.
Now I'm 18, and while he's trying to be better than he was, the way he treated me still affects me to this day. I need to let this stuff off my chest. A single angry yell left me in a panic for the past hour, terrified of what he might do. I don't want to be scared anymore.
Edit: Yes, I also have long blonde hair.
Sorry to bum anyone out, have a live feed of kittens: http://www.apl.tv/kittens.htm

Funnily enough, that sort of thing doesn't scare me at all. Nowhere near as scary as my dad.

You do not have to live in fear. Talk to him.
EvilLesbian
I try to when I can, but he often assumes I'm 'bringing up the past' and 'dwelling on it', rather than talking about how it still affects me
sideriusnuncius
Hey it can get better.
EvilLesbian
Thanks, mate. :)
TheNinjaPervert
Remember the past but don't dwell on it. Look forward to the future and most importantly live in the present. :)

Thank you, wise and mighty Kocoum.

From one with same feels, you are an adult now treat-him the way he treated you-and let him know why-he was a horrible dad
EvilLesbian
I really would, but I'm a) terrified and b) kind of reliant on living in this house, because I'm too socially anxious to get a job or house~
katsuemalibu
You are stronger than you think-you lived through his BS all this time - even getting crappy jobs are a start - now go enjoy your life!
karliekloss
I will think of you. We are survivors. It gets better, and you will feel stronger, I promise. Be safe ❤️

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it <3

My advice? Time to leave the tower and see the world.
EvilLesbian
But the tower has WiFi? :P I've been trying to get out more but it's still very scary. I'm getting better though!
DVSBSTrD
Find yourself a nice tomboy Eugenia who will take you to see the lanterns. Or just make some imgur friends and go visit them.
EvilLesbian
I've got a lovely Eugenia, she just lives on the other side of the planet! I would love to get out and see the lanterns one day.
DVSBSTrD
Let me know when you do ;)
