Every time I hear him talk about something, I have less and less respect for him. It started when he was demanding that Tesla refuse to use LIDAR in their self driving cars. I used to work at PayPal (as a senior developer).
What I heard was that in the early days of PayPal, the other people doing the programming would give Musk "busy work" coding that would never be used, to keep him out of the important code.
Side note, the quality of the code at PayPal was the worst I have seen at anyplace I have worked (they had decent programmers, the quality issues were primarily due to toxic mismanagement) .
