He found a xerox of this in an old box of his Disney stuff, and then scanned it himself to put it back together. This pencil test is some of the last 2d animation he did for Disney.
Originally called "Rapunzel Unbraided" at his point in production, Glen Keane had been considering Black as voice for the male lead character (that evolved into Flynn/Eugene).
So Ripa used dialogue of Jack Black's from the HBO "Tenacious D" TV series to test with. Just like when they got Tom Hanks to play Woody in "Toy Story" by using dialogue of his from "Turner and Hooch".

The originally wanted a sorta goofy guy to be the male hero in Tangled. The guy they ended up putting in Frozen was originality an idea for Tangled.

I mean, most animated movies run at like 30-40fps, and they are around 2hrs. You do the math. There is a reason hand drawn animation is so expensive

24 frames per second. Usually on "2s" (western animation - most drawings held for 2 frames. 12 drawings per aecond. Occasional "1s" for fast movements or camera moves). Around an average of 16 drawings per second. There is often a 'translation' when it makes it to theatre to 29.9 frps in post, but that's a whole other mathematic confusion! ( - sorry, animation nerd here... It's instinctual)

As much as I like Jack Black, his personality is so strong that it shines through the people he act as. Sometimes that is a good thing, but not every story benefits from that kind of energy.

Less actors than entertainers, but still definitely entertaining for sure. Like a voice actor who only does one voice, but does it very well. They ARE still acting though, pretending to be in whatever situation they're in, but it's less about the nuances of the character than it is with other actors.

I'm very much a "animated media should cast actual voice actors." Just watched the Mario Galaxy movie and literally every voice just sounded like the person doing the role. Nobody tried to do the already established voices of any of the characters. Bowser is just Jack Black. Like, his regular ass voice.

Same with Charlie Day as Luigi. It works, but it's literally just his normal voice. Say what you will, but at least Chris Pratt is trying a Brooklyn accent.

Some screen actors can voice act too, but it takes a good director. But then again, some screen actors very much can Not voice act....

Yeah they are fun movies to *watch but they don't *sound like Mario movies. I get that the original voices would be a lot for a full length movie but give some amount of fan service. Even a small sound bite would've been satisfying.

Actors are actors, tbf. Tons of them have plenty of overlap and do both. A ton of voice-actors also do live-action work. David Tennant is one of my fave voice actors by playing the villain in Ark (the game; the series version is exceedingly poorly written). He's fantastic at voice disguise, and it's further modulated. If you want to hear *fantastic* voice-acting, his closing scene in the finale of Genesis 2 is heartwrenching. Keith David and Simon Templeman are also phenomenal VAs who have done-
