Just gonna go up and say it. Being high w. friends in nature, with some sweet ass grooves. That's the best

When I go bushwalking I tend to walk very slowly. It's amazing how many more birds I see and hear when I'm not crashing around so loudly.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

The most irritating thing is hiking on a trail and having others hike near you who can be heard for miles. If you do this, you suck.

5 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Bad enough having to hear them, but the birds go quiet too. Hiking used to make me feel safe, but now there is no refuge from humanity

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thanks COVID.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do NOT use headphones while hiking in Alaska; you won't be able to hear approaching bears or moose. Day 1 safety stuff.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

And noise (speakers or having convos) helps deter wildlife/ alert them to move away so you don't surprise each other. Day 1 Safety stuff.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

play music be loud or the cougars will get ya. or moose

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don’t invite people camping anymore because the need for music is so deafening to the reason I get out of the city.

5 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 1

Suggestion: Set up bear feeding stations playing Post Malone.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Honestly in general using speakers instead of headphones in public is just a dick move to begin with.

5 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 2

OMG.....THIS!! I came here to get away from you! Lol

5 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 2

Out in nature,I just want to feel like I'm Post Alone

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

Pfft... next you're going to tell me not to practice my violin in the Zen garden... be one with the sounds of wailing souls & dying cats.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

On a similar note, STOP USING GOD DAMN SPEAKER PHONE IN PUBLIC!!!

5 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

1)I never understood that one. I've seen it in line ordering food, on public buses, once I even saw a chick with two phones at the same time

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2)doing some sort of nightmare conference call with her best bitches in A FUCKING ELEVATOR.v

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or playing music on your phone. The speaker is the size of a moth's dick hole, who's enjoying that sound quality?

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

FaceTime in the grocery store enrages me.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Counter point: hiking with headphones is dangerous. Rattlesnakes, mountain lions, and bears are generally heard before they're seen.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

None of those around my place, idiots with bluetooth speakers are the only hazards

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Your life must be so hard.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I love listening to the sounds of the woods when I’m hiking. That’s my happy place. However there are sections of the ice age trail near -1

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Me that aren’t heavily used and I’ve encountered more than one bear. So on the days my dog starts to get weird and seems like he’s -2

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Watching something in the woods I have my bear spray in hand and turn music on my phone as loud as it will go until he seems to relax. 3/3

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It takes me back to the 80s, when obnoxious dickheads with ghetto blasters used to think that we should all be enjoying their favorite tunes

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This is actually smart to do in areas with high bear sightings. The noise will keep them away so you don’t walk up one.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Same with people who use speakerphone in public and scream at their phone. Fuck off.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As someone who loves the park, if ur respectful Idgaf if you play music -1

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sometimes there's bears and you have to make noise so I play music. Fuck y'all go get eaten.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

Parks Canada literally advises you to make noise. It'd like people want to accidentally startle a bear and get gored.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Wow"

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

People do this? FFS.

5 years ago | Likes 281 Dislikes 13

And it’s also crap music! Some cyclists do this too. Hopefully they see this and STOP IT!!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yep. All the time. Usually high schoolers and they let the music play from their backpacks. It’s awful

5 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 0

Also military dudes. Something about joining at 18 that makes them cling to a lot of high-schooler tendencies.

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

I know nothing about military training, but it wouldn't surprise me it head injuries aren't uncommon

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Bro I hit my head every fuckin day at work and do i lookk like im'f fuck gin eosfjfjj??????

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Not just in the woods. Everywhere

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

I guess you can call them people.

5 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

One of my closest friends does this. It drives me insane EVERY time. Do I say anything? Of course but I guess it’s not assertive enough

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Only saw it once before 2020. Some people who took up hiking for lack of other options don't know or care about trail etiquette

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No, PEOPLE don't. Whatever the things are that do this are not people.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My friend when we go hiking.. i cringe and tell him at least to quiet down when people are passing

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes and it is a new level of fucking irritating.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I have people cycling behind me for 10 km talking loudly on speakerphone. Fucking annoying

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I did accidentally once. Thought my headphones were dying , they were so quiet. Cranked my phone to max. They weren't plugged in...

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I wonder how many people you past saw your headphones in, and realized this. Or how many just thought you were nuts.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People do this on public transit, and will also use speakerphone

5 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

I play Deathcore on max next to those ppl. Fuck you and your need to share your conversation with the bus.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

The same people that talk at their phones with the caller on speaker, and then get fucking chippy when you make a lot of noise around them?

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I hiked over 800 miles last year, and have seen this a lot. Once I saw a lone hiker with a speaker so big, it had a shoulder strap.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A young lady cycled past me yesterday with a Bluetooth speaker in the basket on the handlebars blasting some shit for everyone to suffer

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It is a plague and the people should be stoned

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

I left a campsite because the campers beside us were blasting Minaj and screaming along. Fuck that all weekend.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Yet another good reason to carry bear spray in the woods

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But...why not? I mean.. if there are a lot of people around you, obviously not. But alone or with a few, why not?

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 4

Are you familiar with Ho Malone?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nature Sounds: What you're supposed to be hearing

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Aren't headphones a risk? Cougars are afraid of Austin.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Why do people think I want to listen to their music? Same with cars. And: the dumber the music, the louder it gets played by these bricks.

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 6

It’s not for you... it’s for them

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

No one is doing it for you.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

I try not to judge people, but I will immediately judge anyone walking around with a bluetooth speaker, that's all I need to know about you.

5 years ago | Likes 626 Dislikes 14

They think they look cool for knowing a certain song, but really they just look like they can't afford headphones.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

There’s documented cases of certain music scaring off predators, so at least play metal while hiking.

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Up there with people that talk on speaker phone in public, and people that don’t return their shopping carts

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I use speakers when hiking in bear country instead of bear bells.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is fair. Saw a dude walk out of a gas station equipped with his speaker and no mask, and I found I hated this person I didn't know.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or a phone on speaker, or watching youtube videos w/ no headphones. I just don't get it...

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have PTSD and cannot use earphones because my anxiety spikes since I can't hear everything around me. Just offering perspective :) I carry

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

my bluetooth speaker so I can listen to music quietly in my own spaces, though, I never just have it blasting in public.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I use a small am/fm speaker while kayaking and fishing.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But you're understanding and don't have it at full volume right?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Of course. It would scare the fishys

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My neighbors listen to metal whether they want to or not

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But you're better than them.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'll be honest, I've never overheard good music played too loudly on speakers or from passing cars, it's always crap music

5 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 3

Or ringtones. I’m so glad that trend of such things as “Bonjovi living on a prayer” blasting out of there Nextel , stopped. There is hope

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What if I played All night long - Lionel Richie

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Almost like...Its subjective ?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Personal opinions man. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's bad.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Even if it was my favorite song, I'd hate it. So inconsiderate.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've actually heard decent music that way. Know a few people that use bluetooth speakers instead of headphones so they can hear people.

5 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 6

I recommend bone conductive headphones. They don't block your ears at all. Keep it at a reasonable volume and I can wear them at work even.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I've actually recently looked into those for post-plague activities! Amazing how cheap the tech is

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You clearly live around people with a better taste than I do

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Maybe I'm just getting old

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

There is an actual science to that - disliking newer music. I challenge myself to try and find an artist i can tolerate any any genre

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Cars are differant thats their space also just cos you dont like it dont mean its bad

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I use a speaker when biking so I can hear cars coming. Biking with earbuds is unsafe.

5 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 17

Yep same, though I try to keep it barely above audible when there's other people around

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

In a dense city I'd recommend against listening to any music tbh.

5 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

Bone conductive headphones. You can hear everything.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I do the same, except I ride trails. You get like three seconds of AC/DC, I get to hear you overtaking from behind so we don't crash.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Your music is bad. The annoyance it causes others is not made up for by your enjoyment. Go without and don't impose your tastes on others

5 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 16

Ha go fuck yourself. I use a speaker while I longboard. Not in high density areas. "Impose your tastes" what a fucking tool lol

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

Your attitude is bad lmao grow up

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

So that's literally what you are doing right now! What if I like their music? What if seeing someone enjoy themselves makes me happy? Why go

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 10

Straight to the negative side of it? Maybe the world would be better if we let people enjoy themselves and worked on ourselves more?

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 7

You have no way of knowing if others will like it.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

So why instantly state and or assume it's bad?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Thats exactly why I listen to music. For others to enjoy it. Speaker on a public train? Asshole. Speaker outside while biking. 0 problem

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just try to judge people.

5 years ago | Likes 108 Dislikes 0

v

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm the judgiest Judy of them all.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

some of us actually like nature and just listening to nothing but the wild

5 years ago | Likes 920 Dislikes 14

I take regular long walks (2-5 hours usually) in nice rugged wilderness. Sometimes its nice to listen to some music or a podcast.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And some us like takin 30k watts of sound into the woods lol

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

I take my son on a walk to beach every morning before work and we sit and listen to the crashing waves and thats music to my ears.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like hiking while listening to music (in headphones). Honestly I feel bored when I'm not listening to something. I hike quite alot

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I watch movies while I camp, It the most relaxed I can be

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(1)Some of us seek the deep woods past the bounds of mortal mens influence. We step past the warning cries of crows as we step further down

5 years ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 5

(2)an unseen path we should not have taken. We seek the silence of all where even the wind falls silent in hushed reverie. Where only those

5 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 4

(3) of the fallen tree, the old stone, and the unbanished shadow live. Because only then may we be truly alone to question the deep truths

5 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 3

(4)that lay unheard in the sharp edges of our broken hearts & shattered spirits. There we may bleed as we pick through those bloodying pieces

5 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 3

(5)so that for a time we might make ourselves whole again. So that at least we may awaken one more day to find we still draw a living breath

5 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 3

But I dont like to Forget About Dre while I'm hiking tho

5 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

I don't even walk my dogs in the neighbourhood with music. It's quiet, me-time.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but those people also hike away from other people.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah yes the sound of nature, which is literally thousands of animals screaming "please come fuck me" at the top of their lungs.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have tinnitus. I want to listen to music to fill the background. But I always listen through headphones if I’m alone.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

By wild I assume you mean Post Malone..?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some of us bring a really heavy setup and listen to nocturnal breed.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"There's a whisper on the night wind, there's a star agleam to guide us, the wild is calling.. calling, we must go." -somebody

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sounds nature play and speaker a bring so?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lyrebird has entered the chat

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The ONLY time I give it a pass is if someone is hiking alone or with one other person. Keeps scary animals away.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

You might like the game firewatch.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You are correct

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

N3ver far enoughfrom a main road here in NL but I like the relative quiet anyway

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm sorry i had my music playin on my phone what did you say?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then go farther away? There is plenty of nature for all of us to enjoy it our own way.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unpopular opinion: it's an easy way to make noise so you're not sneaking up on wildlife.

5 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 19

Wear a bear bell and stop inflicting your music upon people.

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

I use my speaker while biking to warn the deer along the bike trail. I’ve had a few close encounters.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 5

yeah. same. I don't hike but i rock a loud speaker on my bike. anything to make it easier to notice and thus not accidentally kill me.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I actually thought this too

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

Yarp. Bear bells or bluetooth speaker with oldies. People are only complaining because they cant control someone else's music in the woods.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

Sometimes yes, but counter argument: animals will get used to this and feel safe close to humans, plus it's not a concern in most regions

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you're in an area with confirmed grizzlies and mountain lions, go for it though.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1. Why wouldn't you want to sneak up on wildlife? The only animals that you don't want to surprise, you shouldn't be hiking alone near. 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

2. Hahahahahahaha Stupid, Fat Human thinks they're sneaking up on anything other than Deer or Cubs. No, you aren't!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

You realise that some parts of the world, it's almost impossible to hike away from potentially dangerous wildlife? BC for example

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

A bear can certainly maul two people

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Can? Sure. Will? It's rare. Bears willing to attack 2 adult humans at once are already well outside normal behavior, bad music won't matter.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

If there are other people along the trial then there's probably enough activity to keep animals wary and someone that you may be annoying.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

if there are that many people on the trail, you're not "in nature" you're "at the park".

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Not necessarily so. We all wear "bear bells" in Alaska on the trail the sound carries farther then most other sounds.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean at least use headphones

5 years ago | Likes 941 Dislikes 9

As a small female. I don’t wear headphones unless I bring my two big doggos. If I’m alone I have a speaker so I can also hear my surrounding

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

This also applies to being at work. You know who you are and the rest of us hate you.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Why don’t you just tell them to turn off their shit music??

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Its conspiracy, political, alt-right garbage with a side of conservative religion. Already @HR and union with termination requests.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He is the worst of the Trumpists and is, as such, unreasonable. Union wont back his 1A claims, rightfully. It's sad.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was skiing last weekend and some dumb twat had a big speaker strapped to his backpack. Could hear him 200 yards away.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Sounds like someone is begging for an avalanche

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Your in the woods just move deeper into the woods sounds only go so far

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unless you're walking on a popular cycle route.

5 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 0

I'm a cyclist and don't see why this matters unless they're waking smack in the middle of the path like a jackass.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then stay to the edge and not too loud?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've ridden my dirtbike on a lot of trails that allow hikers (and horses) and never had an issue. Fuck anyone who's going too fast to react.

5 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Walkers can hear your dirtbike over their headphones. E-biking on trails is an issue because NO ONE can hear you ride up behind them.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Then they get all pissed off at you when you give a little "beep beep" like bitch fuck off you're the one in the middle of a multi use trail

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I also ride a mountain bike with a silent freehub. I don't mind saying "behind you!" and if they get upset that's their problem not mine.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

??? Just keep to one side and don't blast your eardrums

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

You do your thing with headphones boo.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Being in the woods with headphones on seems unwise, unless you're somewhere with absolutely no dangerous animals.

5 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 2

Exactly.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not only is it unwise, but playing music that is audible to animals around them helps prevent surprising them, reducing dangerous encounters

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can't hear the dangerous ones where I'm from hahaha

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

the most dangerous is a cougar, they'll fuck you up without a sound. bears, rattlesnakes, etc you can hear though

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a UK resident our most dangerous animal is our prime minister and I BLAST music to not hear that cunt

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

fair point

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Alaska here. If you where headphones while in the woods we read about you in the paper or see you on the news later.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Here if you don't check your shoes before putting em on you might be put in the obituaries

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah pass.... I think a bluetooth speaker will help with that......

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What about if you're blasting Post Malone from a crappy bluetooth speaker?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The bears might eat you out of spite or steer clear of tainted meat? Either way there is enough wilderness for everyone and their BT speaker

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0
