What's that quote about fixing political problems? "If your solution is 'if everyone would just' then you don't have a solution"

We can’t even get people to agree that the earth is round. A general strike will never happen. A civil war is far more likely.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well pretty soon you won’t need to clock in.

For mining stuff needed in centers, fair enough?

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Last No Kings Protest was in March. For a notion so reportedly pissed off, we sure don't act like it. But please. By all means let's keep sitting back and bitching about it on Social Media.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Be careful, that kinda talk might get you labeled a "Left-Wing Terrorist". steve miller is tired of our shit and says he gonna start coming after left wing terrorists. Better think twice before you say anything naughty about the current government.

The irony of all this is that only a very small number of people would have to die to improve life on Earth now and for generations to come.
(Or to meke it less shitty than it will be by keeping this route, since they already did a lot of irreparable damage.)

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

They would need to die, their wealth redistributed, and their positions abolished to accomplish that

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A general strike needs organization and logistics at a scale not currently available. As bad as this shit is and as angry as I am about it, not enough other people care to make a strike successful.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We dont have the guts.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Americans are too cowardly and weak-willed to ever do a general strike. Prove me wrong

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Here’s another problem: we’re TOO SPREAD OUT. We need to strike everywhere all at once.

Or at very least figure out how to block highways.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Complete work stoppage until he is removed from office.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is the perfect statement right now.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you schedule your protest, get permits, do it in designated areas then surely it will work...i mean it with the fattest fucking /S possible

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

And I do thank you for StreSSing it.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Make sure it is on the weekend so you don't disturb capitalists' profits

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

And make it only one day. Don't make it last until any actual change happens because it's impossible to ignore.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

A whole day? That's a long time...

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

From the thumbnail I thought that was Jenna Marbles.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A general strike would also allow us more time to rake our forests so we don't end up on fire like some folks /s

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People are still too brainwashed. "If you don't work you are a bad person" is in people's BONES.

Yup

Got me beat, but not by much. brutal out there. Today is better, and hopefully the storms help a bunch over the weekend.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's not a competition I want to win. Thankfully, it was a lot better today, and hopefully the rain does it even better

I'm in Manitoba and it was hazy but not orange. Still had to close my windows cause the smoke was messing with my eyes.

Step 2: Sit down and lick yourself while looking at your boss. Step 3: No profit.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

yeah that would be great. they won't do it tho, too inconvenient, the best they can do is a day, where they'll be careful to not hinder anything or anyone for a couple hours.

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

Not sure why you got downvoted. After murdering multiple people, ICE slept soundly in their tax payer hotel rooms recovering from just having jerked off to the thought of murdering more citizens and the best Americans did was yell outside the hotel at a brick wall. Anytime you mention doing more than their government approved weekend bbq, all of a sudden "be the change you wanna see!" A.k.a "why won't someone lone wolf for me while I get Starbucks?!"

We need a leader. Right now no one is banning together because no one is leading the cause.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is not time for a general strike. It is time for a revolution.

Y'know, I am a strict believer in telepathy (because it works) and therefore don't entirely buy into the very idea of being lonely, ever. :)

Then I don't need to answer b/c you know what I'm thinking.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Fine, a specific strike then

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Literally had this discussion with my psychiatrist last week. Am already on antidepressants/anti anxiety medication but I also feel like the anxiety/depression I'm experiencing is an appropriate response to the current state of things.

A general strike only seems feasible if there is clear, achievable goal that most of the country's citizens can agree on being the most important issue at a given moment.
Unfortunately, I don't think we're there yet. Things will need to get worse in specific ways first.

2 months ago | Likes 129 Dislikes 3

Trump's head on a stake. That's the goal.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We're closer than it seems. General Strikes don't require a particularly large percentage of the population. 5-10% would be more than enough, and it goes without saying that we have those numbers. The tricky bit is organization and sustained solidarity, but it is 100% feasible.

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Based on last election, about 20% of the population are scabs

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Sadly, there's a large portion of the country that's fine with things getting worse for everyone (including them) as long as it happens moreso to whatever outgroup they don't like. Nevermind that they've also been trained to vote against their own interests (socialized healthcare, taxing the rich, funding for education) for generations and seem perfectly content to continue to do so.

"give us the heads of your CEOs and the rest of you can live. For now."

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A general strike only seems feasible when everyone isn’t living paycheck to paycheck and fighting for their lives just to live :(. They stop working, they starve and the government and the billionaires won’t give AF because they have plenty of money :(

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The most important issue is to eat the rich. Most the problem will work themselves out after that. I’d venture to say 95% of the world’s problems stem from the greed of the ultra wealthy.

2 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately, many MANY individuals are not afforded the right to protest under certain regulations. Such as air cargo transportation and rail road employees. Federally illegal to participate in a general strike. Like, no stop, straight to jail type regulations.

I am all for striking. However, many of the most influential positions that would push a strike forward are held to a different standard.

Example - FedEx / UPS are FEDERALLY not allowed to strike. Railroad and Airway Act.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

In addition, many states prevent healthcare workers and teachers from striking. Some it's illegal, some it's illegal except under very specific circumstances

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We can all agree billionaires are shit

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's why so many things are wrong right now. To decide us into groups too weak to take them on. Every day is something new.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How about a 5% wealth tax for net worth over $250 million? Let's just do that. All proceeds go to healthcare, education, housing, and climate. We can all agree on that.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’d love to see a 5% wealth tax on worth over $25 million.

But I’m skeptical that idea is going to galvanize enough people into risking their homes, jobs and food security to strike for.

Striking is a refuge of last resort when the status quo is too painful to accept. I doubt we’re there yet.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How about a 100% wealth tax on those over $100m.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

On top of that there also needs to be a clear plan to ensure people aren't fucked by striking. Imagine a month long general strike: so many people will be homeless by the next month.

2 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Well, no, because the system doesn’t have the capacity to evict millions of people not paying rent, we saw that during covid. Lots of people would be under the threat of being homeless, few would actually be homeless. That’s the point of a strike, they can’t punish all of us

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Still we’d need a support structure in place for those unlucky ones who do get evicted

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Personally I'd like it if all the unions went, "fuck your laws, we're striking right now".

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That’s a great point and the thing that likely separates the US from countries that could (more easily) implement a general strike.

Without paid leave, public healthcare, or government food help, most workers cannot afford to miss work in the US.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Those are the things we'd be striking for. Those countries didn't magically get those things, the workers put the capitalists over a barrel and demanded it

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As designed

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is why nothing will ever change in the United States. American's don't understand that if you are going to fight for something, sacrifices will have to be made. You can't not protest because you will be slightly inconvenienced if you ever want things to improve.

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 7

And you don't understand that our laws are hypercapitalist: in Europe and Australia there are strong laws protecting people in housing, and labor laws are far stronger.

I suggest you look up the Railway Labor Act of 1926: it outlaws unions coordinating to engage in strikes, and it prevents strikes when a contract is in effect.

They passed this because of how the last general strike fucked things up for the cappies.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm sorry, do you consider losing one's home and starving/freezing to death in the streets a "slight inconvenience"?

2 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

So, strikes should include protests under certain institutions responsible for this state of being. This newfangled luxury-class slavery.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Do you really believe that will happen? I've never seen people more afraid of everything than Americans.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We’re not talking about “inconveniences,” we’re talking about not being able to get food/keep shelter, healthcare *just because we’re not working during a strike*. Our entire system is based on keeping people working but also working g to the point that that’s all they can do.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Your entire system is based on you living in fear of your fucking masters, and you do it so well. It is why nothing will ever change.
