Just remember that Germany wasn't the only place taken by fascism and hate. Italy, Spain, and many other places also fell to it. Nazism, fascism, whatever it's name, right wing intolerance and greed was all it was. Also remember, the leaders of those movement's fates.... Hitler died in a ditch, covered in petrol, on fire. Benito Mussolini, shot after running for his life, unremarkably, in a village. All of these movements fail. But how much they destroy is up to us.

It's cast metal, most likely cast Bronze... between the late 1800s and early 20th century, that was the cheapest way to mass produce durable architectural ornaments was cast iron or bronze. Cast iron was used for certain large ornate cladding and panels, but complex ornamental architectural statues and emblems were usually made out of several bronze castings, which appears to be the case here (the eagle appears to be a separate casting from the Nazi wreath).

It's a copper alloy, and only some of the corrosion would be that color. One that I found from a museum's site is posted further up the thread.
That isn't really definite, because bronze IS a copper alloy, but I'm not sure why the site wouldn't just say bronze, so I suspect it's a similar alloy.

the hollow base the soldier is standing on says otherwise (are you familiar with the medium of stone sculpture? are you a stoneworker? a sculptor?). the fact it's been dislodged from it's original position and is still entirely intact also suggests otherwise. the debris and disarray of the surrounding environment calls into doubt the gentle laying down of said sculpture, stone wouldn't hold up to severe impact compared to the more likely bronze casting technique.

You're probably right about it being bronze, I was saying cast iron in another post, but I forgot that ornaments such as that were usually mounted in places where you couldn't risk rust streaks, so bronze would have been more likely (though they did use cast iron in different places)... the fact that it has a matte finish indicates bronze because if it were iron, it would be painted and likely have a slightly glossy sheen. The fact that it didn't break also confirms bronze.

It's all good, I'm not an expert... I've helped restore old architectural ornaments in NYC and I'm only going by information passed on to me by the individuals who knew more... But that was literally back in the previous century.

i'd argue that the cloth covering it (and the soldier's legs obscuring it) combined with a lot of other debris is leading you to believe it's broken when in fact it is not. but, that's just like, my opinion man.
