The problem is too many of us, on the right and even some of us on the left, dont actually have anything they stand for. Theyre reactive and take a cue from their favorite social media personalities and talking heads on how they should feel about things. It's great that these irreverent people are seeing charlie kirk for the laughing stock that he is but it's not like a new kirk or a Rogan or some other charmer cant still scoop them up and put them to bad use.

slight inaccuracy: if memory serves, 9/11 jokes were being made online almost immediately. i remember hearing people who were old enough to remember (i was 3) describe how, moments after the towers fell, forum users were already posting gifs of hulk hogan superimposed atop news footage to make it look like he was pummeling the wtc to bits.

Within minutes of his death, one of my best friends (an ex-girlfriend from college) called me because she was feeling conflicted about someone's death bringing her joy and finding it funny. So I started making a whole mess of dark jokes about it. And a read her a bunch that y'all were making here and from Bluesky. She said it made her feel so much better that she wasn't an aberration for feeling that way. That some people really are just evil and don't deserve solemnity in death.
