#48 I think I am a little too "born in the 70's" to fully appreciate this genere of humour. Or I just like my partners to look sexually mature?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I could go either way aesthetically. Mostly, my wife keeps it clean shaven because otherwise it tickles my nose.

#37 oh man. My ex got into vaping, because I was vaping to quit smoking. But he really got into it. He spent so much money on the devices, like up to 200-300 euros on just one vape. Lots and lots of expensive vape juices started appearing. I'd sometimes wake up to the sound of him vaping in bed, wouldn't learn to gtfo of the bedroom to vape. One time he wanted to go to a vape convention. We didn't have money for it. Oh no, his mom is in the hospital, he needs to go see her! Nope. Vape con.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I try to avoid drinking anything for a while before bed. Doesn't always work.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I can still drink a glass of water right before bed without issue. Gonna go drink some water right now. Lemme just pee first.

Lol. Awesome. I've run out of space to do myself now. I used to work in a shop. Now I gotta get other people to do what I can't. I have a consult on Friday to plot out the plans to wrap my neck.

I work in a super corporate job, which makes it even better. I give presentations to c level executives and I always have my father's voice in the back of my head: "you'll never get a job with all these tattoos!" Haha Dad! I showed you!

Dammit, I made myself sad.

I definitely didn't wince at the thought of the pain of sleeping on my balls. I sit on them already occasionally, but imagine the blinding pain if you somehow managed to sleep through that and woke up after hours of that kind of pressure

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oooh. The waking limb pain but in your balls.

#90 Just stop pushing the gas pedal. You should see the look on their faces, when they have to brake while your brake lights are still off...

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

I just set my speed limiter to exactly one kph below the speed limit. This is the most fun when the license plate is from out of town and I know there's a speed camera just ahead.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Oh, I have paddle shifters, so I'll often drop a gear. Especially if I'm 5-10 over the limit & they're right on me.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Had this the other day. Little KIA I think. I let off the pedal, slowed down, sped up. I did this 3 times and every time they raced to be behind me again. How brainless do you have to be to not look further than the car in front, to notice I'm slowing down on purpose?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Some people are simply dumb or too much of an asshole. And from what I've noticed, a lot of people consider it kind of a basic right to steer a car (also for others). Meaning, even the dumbest, most aggressive fuckers get their license. And even when they repeatedly prove that they are not up to the task of driving in a fashion that does not endanger everyone else, they will still keep their license. Because rule one: It's kind of a basic right to be allowed to drive a car, no matter what.

And that anti-vaxxers aren't always pooping. Without rotavirus vaccination there's a fair chance they can't say "watery diarrhea" without taking a bathroom break in between

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Because mythology has ~4 functions, one of which is enforcing power structures, which abusers love.

2 years ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 4

1) Fickle Gods: Explaining complex systems with emergent behavior, but doesn't quite make sense but almost seems 'moody'.

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

3) Real Hallucinations: somebody got absolutely fucking obliterated and refused to admit they saw nonsense, see Japanese cryptids.

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

I wish I could see Japanese cryptids but they keep hiding from me.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

4) Telling Stories: adding an element of magic to make a story more interesting to children.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

"Virgin conception" sounds a lot more magical than "Uh yea I cheated and now I'm pregnant. Ooops"

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or was raped by a soldier or something. Also entirely possible that aspect is apocryphal and added after whatever nonsense was told at the time to make *this* demi god even more special than the other ones.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

True, all possibilities.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What are these four from? I'm interested

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I made them up based on personal observations of story structures facilitated by tvtropes, lesswrong, and similar sites. I'm sure I'm not the first, but I can't really point you to stuff beyond pointing you to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparative_mythology

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

4a : using stories to coerce kids into better behavior. "Behave or Krampus will take you away"

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I also wanted the reasons to be mostly exclusionary so that one couldn't be lumped into the other, but an action can have multiple reasons.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I touched on that in 2's continuation, under 'power structures', because the powerful occasionally using that power for good is still the powerful enforcing their power structure.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

2) Enforcing Power Structures: most variants of '[deity of choice] wants me in charge or apocalyptic stuff happens!'

2 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

You'll also see most variants of 'goblins like the taste of children who don't eat their vegetables'.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

On the sites I go to, goblins tend to like the taste of

#15, I have a call screening function on my phone that I love. It answers the phone for me and basically says "the caller doesn't trust you. Tell me why they should pick up"

2 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Yeah my Pixel does this too.

Call Screen

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same, plus it takes amazing photos.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Nice. The only calls I get are either from my last provider or Chinese robocallers. Unless I see a name or name of a business that I recognize, I ignore it & then block the number.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

It's mostly spam calls for me and they'll hang up after 17 seconds (it's always 17 seconds). But it was super helpful when I was trying to get a job and I was expecting calls from numbers I didn't know. I probably had some people not push through it, but those who did gave us a talking point right off the bat. The interviewer asks what it was, I tell them, and then they would say something like "that's so cool, I should get something like that"

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Like having a doorman at an exclusive club. Lol. Half of the ones I get leave a message in Mandarin, or there's just a dead air message.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is it an app or a feature on the phone?
-interested iPhone user

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Like a few others have said, it's a feature on pixel (which is what I have)

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's a feature on Google Pixel phones.
