if the dog eats the cat shit instead of the truffles id say the cat is a pretty valuable member of the team. think about a restaurant - the rest of the staff shit all over the dishwashers because it's not as skilled or nuanced as some of the other spots, but try to make it through a shift without one.
I've never met a dog that didn't love to eat cat shit.
You just have the wrong perspective on Larry. Larry is a total bro. He is out there because his best friend loves digging in the ground in the forest. Larry is just doing his best to support his weird friend.
On a separate note, does anyone else find it annoying that we all know Larry's name, but no one knows the dog's name?
and here we see how management works, the ones not doing any important are the ones that get all the naming and attention and therefore must be important.
Well, I certainly don't want to post A.I., but this story hit me as weirdly plausible. I looked extensively at all the posts. Dogs and cats have shown bonds before and mimicked one another. The question of A.I. on this is mixed all over the Web.
Regardless, the story seems to have made people happy without any overt political goal. (I cannot even conceive of a political goal implied there, to be honest. What, that people eat mushrooms?)
The story could well be true, I don't know - it may just have been the photo they were claiming was A.i., though I certainly can't recognize any signs.
My friend's Goldie is learning to be a Truffle Hunter and she is doing very well and hasn't eaten any yet but found quite a few. She is 6 years old and has been learning for the past 2 years and her name is Truffle.
Tell Truffle that I love her! My sisters 10-12 year old rescue chihuahua has a certificate in blood tracking (don't know the correct name in english), my sister jumped on random training courses as a part of mental rehab, she (the dog) had serious hyperactivity and nervousness problems when she arrived. So now she's authorised to be on call for tracking hurt wildlife at accident sites, by accident! They don't make small enough official hi vis-vests for her though, lol!
And then demanding you stop in the middle of cooking to do something else. And then crying and crying when you won’t and opening the cabinets and banging your shins!
There's a Larry on my team. We're about to lose him. Hes a huge liability but i dont think the team realizes how much of the shit work he does. It's going to be bitter sweet when he's gone
I've seen a couple of people who, while dedicated workers behind the scenes, weren't 'Flashy or Job Forward' enough for the manager, so they were let go. It took months to get production back up anywhere close to the levels it was with 'The Quiet Drudge' plugging away in the shadows...
That does suck. Because sometimes you need a Larry to do the shit work so that other people can put their efforts into the things that they’re the best at. It’s a shame that they’re a liability tho.
Yeah agreed there's more work put into protecting Larry and everyone else from Larry than he actually gets done. I finally got one of mine fired and half my week cleared up for all 11 other people I supervise
I divide my officers into four groups. There are clever, diligent, stupid, and lazy officers. Usually two characteristics are combined. Some are clever and diligent — their place is the General Staff. The next lot are stupid and lazy — they make up 90 percent of every army and are suited to routine duties. Anyone who is both clever and lazy is qualified for the highest leadership duties, because he possesses the intellectual clarity and the composure necessary for difficult decisions. […]
Sadly, my workplace is mostly filled with Stupid and Lazy. But that's who's willing to work for the shit pay they offer, and they wonder why nothing's getting done.
I'm a clever and lazy manager. My paperwork is immaculate, my employees are competitively paid. I show up to do their complaining for them so everyone else is mad at me instead of them, and then I fuck off to go writing. I've either automated away the rest or proven that it could be an email instead of a meeting. I'm not their project lead so they don't really need me around often
[…] One must beware of anyone who is stupid and diligent — he must not be entrusted with any responsibility because he will always cause only mischief. — Kurt Gebhard Adolf Philipp Freiherr von Hammerstein-Equord (1878-1943): Truppenfährung, 1933
I throw people into 3 buckets, "smart", "can follow instructions", "useless". The smart people are ideal helpers since they can usually be trusted to follow instructions, unless the instructions are stupid in which case they'll tell you about it, and they'll be thinking about what the next instructions are likely to be and proactively doing that, then you get "can follow instructions", who are fucking useful as long as you can explain the plan to them, and then you have everyone else...
Failing Upward. If you can do your job well, you might get promoted to a higher position, if you can do that job you go higher, until you reach a job you can't do. A level of incompetence where you plateau. Welcome to Middle Management.
Damn. A former US Navy officer once described me as the smartest lazy person he ever met. He said it was a compliment but I didn't realize it was that much of a compliment.
That was an excellent read, however, the problem with Kevin clearly was not that he was dumb. He apparently had a situation for which we just don't have a proper diagnosis, maybe something on the 'tism spectrum combined with OCD?
