Well, I certainly don't want to post A.I., but this story hit me as weirdly plausible. I looked extensively at all the posts. Dogs and cats have shown bonds before and mimicked one another. The question of A.I. on this is mixed all over the Web.
Regardless, the story seems to have made people happy without any overt political goal. (I cannot even conceive of a political goal implied there, to be honest. What, that people eat mushrooms?)

My sisters 10-12 year old rescue chihuahua has a certificate in blood tracking (don't know the correct name in english), my sister jumped on random training courses as a part of mental rehab, she (the dog) had serious hyperactivity and nervousness problems when she arrived. So now she's authorised to be on call for tracking hurt wildlife at accident sites, by accident! They don't make small enough official hi vis-vests for her though, lol!

I throw people into 3 buckets, "smart", "can follow instructions", "useless". The smart people are ideal helpers since they can usually be trusted to follow instructions, unless the instructions are stupid in which case they'll tell you about it, and they'll be thinking about what the next instructions are likely to be and proactively doing that, then you get "can follow instructions", who are fucking useful as long as you can explain the plan to them, and then you have everyone else...
