Well , now release the mouse outside. The mouse needs to be moved at least a mile (1.6 km) away. This prevents the mouse from returning to your home. To keep the mouse safe from predators, go no further than three miles (4.8 km). Find an area with cover, such as wooded areas, wood piles, or rocky ground and consider leaving food in such enclosed areas until the mouse can get established.
Food options include uncooked oatmeal, peanuts, bird seed, and dry pet food ))

If you go further than 3 miles the mouse IS NOT SAFE ( it's a gang territory thing)

how does only moving it 3 miles matter. You already moved it far enough it can go home.... 3 miles or 100 what changes?

Thankfully with two kitties in my house the smell of predators keeps them away.

I found the best way is to toss them into my least favorite neighbor's yard. :)

Owls, foxes, bobcats, snakes, weasels, hawks, shrikes, herons, skunks, raccoons, and falcons need to eat too.

So how do you get rats off an island? Hmm? My grandmother showed me. We buried an oil drum and hinged the lid...

I've heard of a Dormouse but not a roofmouse.

“ … so let me tell ya’ how this happened, I was tracking mouse scent, really focusing, nose down, walk, walk, walking and blam, here I am”

More than a mile away: check. Safe from predators? Lol. It's between them and the owls now my man.

It's Schroedinger's Mouse now, isn't it? Is it in the cat - or not?

One does not simply have A mouse, you have MICE.

I use a large glass jug or jar with a light coating of oil inside. Place it at about a 45° angle, put bait in the bottom, make sure it's easy for a mouse to get in. Once they do, they can't climb back out up the oiled glass incline, so you now have them trapped but uninjured. Proceed as desired.

Someone wrote a whole book on this, think she called it "The Mousetrap". Was very popular for a long time. Forgotten wisdom?

And if you give a mouse a cookie....

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

i get it, the cat now catches the mouse

I had little green mouse traps that caught them "humanely." Only they cried till they woke me up, then I got up and got dressed and carried the trap to this perfect location to release it. But I'm telling you that mouse was terrified the whole time. Now I have electric shock traps and when the green light is blinking it has a dead mouse in it. You open it and they look so calm... like they were moving towards the peanut butter and a switch was flipped and then went from on to off.

I'd rather a mouse die a really quick death than terrify it a while and then release it in the wild where it is likely to die a far worse death.

Mouse would probably have fit through the holes in that cage.

11 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Easily. If they were trying to catch the mouse with that, they were being silly.

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

yeah also mouse wont trigger it because its too light...

Keep the mouse safe from predators XD

Ever live off grid? Mice are your enemy. Will fuck up your shit so fast, from your power to your food stores to your clothing and anything else you can think of.

Recommendation, keep a cat or three outside and inside plus set a couple clean le reusable traps where the cats can't get to them.

My fav is the tough plastic traps with a little bucket that has a lift-lid. Rarely see fails and easily clean le/reusable. Doesn't misfire like wood traps.

They're very good at making more mice.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, there absolutely is such a thing. Just 2 months back we had one mouse who managed to get into the house until we eventually caught it. It has its advantages to live in a house with almost only solid stone walls, there's not many places the little fuckers can hide...

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

One mice ?

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep, and when it comes down to it, one just has to accept the cruelty of life and kill the little buggers. If you do not check your live traps EVERYDAY, you will eventually find mice dead from dehydration starvation, completely covered in their own filth having spent the last days of their lives trapped in a small plastic cell. Just kill them. One needs old fashion traps placed perpendicular to the wall to get the best kill (parallel will cause it to miss and leave them alive on the trap.)

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not true! We only had a single mouse, captured and released (to be fox food most likely, but, well...) four years ago and having zero mouse ever since. So, it happens!

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

unless I suppose some "kind person" has _just_ dropped one off at your house after trapping it at theirs

This. When we had "a mouse" the fucker camme family of 20.
I wanted a catch and release. Dad wanted a catch and kill. We had like 20 of them. I managed to save 3 and released them about 2 km from my home but dad just killed everything else.

11 months ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Your dad's a smart man. They have a path in my house (somewhere in the walls that leads to the same place every time)...and they all follow it and I have two traps set up and they usually come in at least 3's. Have had as many as 12 the one year...in a one week or less period. Then they're all dead until the next batch finds its way through a hole in the outside wall somewhere (months or even years later). All they need is a hole the size of your pinky finger. Little bastards.

11 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

Maybe, but he could have gone a less cruel route by throwing live captured mice in a bucket of water and using poison traps.
Mice are indeed bastards though.

11 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Gonna assume there is a missing "than" in that sentence, rather than this being your proposed less cruel alternative.

11 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I mean, drowning the live captured mice is cruel as fuck, if captured, might as well release them in the woods. Drowning is just barbaric.

I missed what he said to the cat, but I heard the "ca va, madame." 😆

11 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

"Je crois que le premier client est arrivé" - I think the first customer has arrived
"Mais qu'est-ce qu'elle fout là, celle-là?" - What the fuck is she doing here, that one? (lit. translation but I wouldn't keep that last part, doesn't really work in English)
[something I can't quite catch]
"Le repas vous a plu, j'espère?" - You liked the meal, I hope?

11 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure he says "It's Azur", which is probably the cat's name

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oooh, that does make a lot of sense, thanks. How did I miss that?

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You want me to move a mouse more than one mile but less than 3 miles.... In an effort to keep it safe from predators.... It's a mouse.....

11 months ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 6

I have a serious semi-feral cat and a mini-dachshund. I've seen a mouse go from one side to the other around a cylindrical kitchen trash can, infuriating the cat. The dog runs over and knocks the trash can down.
The dog chases a mouse outside and it's going up a tree. It gets about 4' up, the cat leaps up and knocks it down; then sits there looking at the dog like it's so pathetic.
They're a lot of fun. And rodent murderers.

11 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Right? Like, I don't particularly wanna kill the things myself, but once they're well out of my house...peace, little dude, and good fucking luck cuz them owls look hungry.

11 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Also. You're literally just moving the problem to another area and someone else's problem. If they plan on dropping it off out in the "wilderness" it's as good as dead anyways if it was one used to urban/house life.

11 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They're kinda like nature's potato chips. Other critters gotta eat too.

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How is a mouse 2.5 miles from its previous home supposed to be safer than one 3.5 miles away, anyway?

11 months ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 1

It's all bullshit. Mice usually only travel about 150ft away from their "home" for food, moving it a mile or 10 miles makes no difference, the point is to put it somewhere unfamiliar so it can't find its way back to your home.

The harsh reality is that you're killing that mouse by doing that, so either do it humanely with a trap, immediately after you catch it, or live with it.

Source: I do this for a living.

Mice have terrible data plans and the roaming charges are brutal.

I have never once caught the critter I was trying to catch in a live trap. Caught other critters, just not the ones I was aiming for.

11 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I managed to catch the groundhog the 2nd time. Also check live traps often, groundhogs can't handle the sun.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was never able to catch the damned groundhog. I caught Hubert, the adorable innocuous opposum. I was also never able to catch the feral cat, I caught a raccoon so large that I've got no idea how he squished himself into the trap. Thought I was gonna need to cut the cage apart, did manage to dump his ass out, and he turned around and waddled away. I stopped trying with the live trap. I'm pretty sure the coyotes got the groundhog. And I only saw the cat one other time.

Both my raccoon "victims" were cooperative and one managed to hit every tree as they blasted into the woods I let him go in.
