This one sure blew up! Food is a universal language, be it lacking or not?.
Some folks over there have mentioned that their "comfort food" is bland because of decades of shortages. How long ago was that, though? 1930s to 1960? If it was comfort food, why hasn't anyone mentioned the post-war staple of SPAM. Oh, right. That's a Yank product.
With the exception of Fish & Chips, most of the high cuisine of British kitchens appears to be fine dining or special meals like Sunday dinner or holiday fare.
In the US, home cooking comes in many different styles. Many meals I grew up with were quick foods. Hamburgers and sloppy Joe's. While the pasta was store bought, Mom made her sauce frome scratch for spaghetti ?.

England has great food. I went to an excellent Chinese restaurant in London, and had a nice curry in Brighton.

Many countries have awful traditional food. I live in Sweden which used to be poor as mud up until the 60s, our traditional food is poor people's crap (also "Swedish" meatballs are a German invention).
Modern Swedish food is much better, and this also goes for modern UK food, Tikka Masala for example is most likely a dish invented in the UK.

No, it's not. Some people blame ww2 reasoning for a period of poor food but the generation that grew up on that is the healthiest Britain ever had (another interesting fact -British dentistry doesn't do much for appearances, but their teeth are healthier than most others).

Traditional British food is actually rather good, it's what they actually cook that's awful. The royals and the upper class always had French chefs, and the industrial revolution took the time to cook away from the lower classes, so the habit of eating traditional food was lost in favour of anything that is simple to cook and eat regardless of it being good or bad.

It's a bit of a long running meme but it's grounded in a bit of truth. A lot of comfort food in the UK is /very/ different to say, the US's idea of comfort food, mostly because of two generations growing up during some of the most difficult times the country/empire ever faced, and their survival foods turning into reminders of when the next generation was young.

Rich people get spices, everyone else has to make due with what they had, and it wasnt much. So the vast majority of recipes were bland and folksie. Then add in the WW2 rationing and what results is a very boring if not weird menu. My grandmother used to make Sheeps Head Stew and in Eastern Canada they still have Liver and Onions served in restaurants.

I mean, it's an okay meme but holy heck how over-flavored and hot and spicy the food ppl actually eat in England is. Where I come from we let the flavors of the ingredients have a fighting chance too, and not just DUNK the food in 50% of the ingredient weight in spices from all over the world, with a significant part of those being mouth burning.
