Didn't see some chunks of wood on the highway at night, instantly blew out the front right tire, by the time I got four lanes over to the shoulder there was basically nothing left.
Couldn't leave the car on the side of the highway, or I would have no wheels and no glass left in the car
So I limped it the last 8 or so miles home at about 10 mph, and I'm guessing because of the difference in the size of tires and the fact that the right was just spinning, it was dragging the left front wheel awkwardly, enough that it completely chewed through the inside of that tire, and now that one won't hold air either.
You can see by how much tread is left on the tire, that it's not an old tire
I have to be at work by 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, it's a 45 mile commute.
Screwed. Unbelievably screwed.. we skipped Thanksgiving because we couldn't afford food, and we're skipping Christmas because we can't afford Christmas. And if I'm not into work tomorrow, odds are I won't have a job.

You could try to set up a gofundme for new rims and tires. It's a long shot, but what do you have to lose?

Also looks like the other tire is wearing a lot on the inside, looks like an alignment issue, wont be long until that tire blows as well.

That tire is already not holding air, that's why I included a picture of it. It wasn't anywhere near that one before driving on just the rim for so many miles

Driving on a bare rim puts it "out of round". Excessive driving on one does this kind of damage.
No reputable tire shop will mount on a damaged rim. It is unsafe even IF the bead will seat, and this one is far beyond that threshold.
Based on the rim and bolt pattern I'm guessing this is a 2017-ish VW sedan.
Most junkyards have those rims for cheap.
It's also very possible that doing this destroyed a ball joint, shock, etc as well so this probably needs to be inspected by a mechanic.

Pretty close to what the rim was sourced from, a 2012 GLI.. but the car that it was bolted onto, using a spacer, is a 2004 Mazda 6 V6 5 speed

Had I left the car on the side of the highway, by the time I had gotten back to it there would have been no wheels, and likely no glass left in it.
Texas cities are not friendly to stranded vehicles, people just love inflicting as much damage as they can, or stealing what they can

Believe me, I'm aware. I've spent the last 30 minutes or so using a wire wheel on a grinder trying to clean up that rim, but I'm seeing some heavy pitting/gouging on the bead sealing surface, so I'm pretty sure that wheel is totally fucked

Find a local, independent used tire shop. Call them ASAP and describe the vehicle and tire size. I've brought my local guy goofy sized trailer wheels in my truck bed on an hour's notice.

even when buying a cheap car, first thing to do is to make sure it is set for the road
like spare, jack, wrench, ice scrubber, knife, pair of pliers, flashlight, some paper and pen, insurance, med kit, fire extinguisher, towing rope, pair of gloves, long lasting snack, bottle of water, duct tape
things you should not leave home without
it all costs some $, but saves much more and it all is a little expense compared with the car

Yes, that is how it works.
But the case I am describing is more like buying cheaper boots and spending an extra dime for a can of wax that would keep them walking like twice as long. Because waxed cardboard is drier.
What you are citing here is more like buying a cheap car that won't last and takes half of it's price per year for parts and fixing to keep it alive.
