both sides! (this only helps the GOP)

Except that was actually their position in 2020, when this tweet was posted

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 16

The problem I have with these arguments is that they lead to dog piling on anyone that criticizes the dems. I am voting for Biden this year. But he’s still an asshole and I will be criticizing the failures of the dems as I do my civic duty.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

To be fair, one side is fascist. Of course I don’t want the fascists to win. But the Dems could and should do better.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's less this and more "We'd like to help, but the opposition has decided to burn down anything we propose JUST because we proposed it. Even if it helps their constituents. ESPECIALLY if it helps their constituents."

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

Well obviously. If the bills they propose limit power of the people, and the bills that the Dems propose actually help the people in ways people notice and recognize, then they lose votes to the blue team. The current state of power dynamics and wealth means that Dems need to fight on behalf of the people to keep power, and Repubs need to indoctrinate the younger generations before they come into power to retain power. So their current solution, as with every other problem, is to bide for time.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If the boomers die of old age before the power switch happens, they win. They don't care that it puts future generations over a barrel and turns our country into a hellhole where the government turns full tyrant dictatorship if it means they stay in power until they die.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thank you! I just posted this in response as well

@Kingrablo the Republican that usersub let get their propaganda to the fp

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

So you're solution is to just ignore all the massive failures of the Democratic party?

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 45

My dude, we are past the point of voting on principles. An eastern European friend of mine gave me some pretty solid advice when I was doomer about trump in 2016. It's about corruption. You can't vote on principle because no politicians have any anymore. You have to vote for the least corrupt.

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 3

Massive failures such as... the ones you failed to list?

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

Failure to to implement single pater health care
Failure to protect unions and workers' rights
Failure to protect the rights of trans individuals
Failure to appropriately tax the wealthy
Failure to not support a genocide
Etc.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Explain to me how saying that Republicans are objectively worse in every way is the same as ignoring failures by the Democrats

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

We're going to remember what the Democrats did to help the working class. https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/10/politics/covid-relief-bill-house-vote/index.html

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

So your solution is to just make massively disingenuous arguments?

2 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 7

You responded to an honest take by suggesting that it was wrong. The Democrats are better than Republicans, but imthat doesn't mean they're actually helping people, they're just not actively trying to make everything worse, and we deserve politicians who actually want to help the population

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Voting isn't marriage. You don't wait for The One. Like public transport, you take whatever gets you closest to your destination.

Of course we don't ignore their failures. We aren't idiots. But the both-sides narrative, when one side is demonstrably evil, only helps normalize the evil.

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 4

(Before anybody says they like the analogy, I stole it from another meme.)

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You will reliably be downvoted and flamed for bringing up problems with the democrats here, even if you're not advocating not voting for them. Anything less than full throated unquestioning support is interpreted by many people as betrayal.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

Will I?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It's so ridiculous, I've been massively downvoted for saying that supporting genocide is a bad thing that Biden is doing

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Of course, and I'll be voting for Biden in November, but that doesn't mean he's not a shitty president who uninterested in making the serious systemic changes that are needed.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Like I said, of course we're aware of the failures, of course we don't forgive them. We also do not support the idea that both parties are equally bad, because it's demonstrably false and is a narrative that normalizes a fascist GOP.
