The only way a fuse blowing looks like that is if it's an explosive fuse. They do have that for transmission line type voltage, but it seems unlikely that box contained anything. Although, given that I don't see power lines as we pan around, maybe? From the behavior though, there was a regular pop first, and then the big blast. This is much more "something weird has happened". Could have been arcing, could have burned something inside, maybe some sort of control element exploded. Hard to say.

there is a big trench on the other side by the sidewalk, like its either facing unscheduled erosion or maybe a vehicle left the roadway and caused the conduit to shift. I suspect if this is a location without seasons the lines are not down 5-6ft.

Judging by well defined black tire mark on the box before he even jumps, it wasn't just 1 slap but I agree even 50-100 slaps shouldn't cause a catastrophic failure like that.

There is absolutely no way that it is acceptable that an impact like that can have that effect. It is an unacceptable and dangerous design flaw. Kid shouldn't have done it, but what he did should never have caused that result.

When a fuse blows in a cabinet like that you may hear a pop but there won’t be fire and smoke. Looks like phase to ground, either from him jarring open a switch or breaking something that allowed for phase to ground.

When I was a kid a line worker came to our school with a burned up helmet. He said a friend of his went to work on one of these boxes. When he opened the door something like a raccoon got spooked. Jumped up and got into the electrified bits and the whole thing blew up in the guys face. They told us to never play around such things. I can still picture that helmet.

Oh yeah, critters love using electrical equipment for homes because of the warmth and safety from predators. Our company has a policy of grouting the openings underneath the equipment with concrete to keep them from burrowing underneath for access.
And electrical fires are +5000° in an instant, the reason most companies require linemen to wear FR clothing.

I have one in my backyard that they replaced with a new one, the box is just a containment for if/when the transformer blows.

Coincidentally I am an certified electrical engineer. Just not in the US. In central Europe this type of box would indeed just be a housing screwed to a concrete pour, with the "meat" of the switching/transforming/electronics being mounted separately to the same pour. Typically it has a hole in the middle for the burried cables etc.
