I grew up with a single mom (dad just wasn't there and was an interloper in my life who would show up once a quarter to check in)....
Is the argument that single mom's are just incompetent? Even helicopter moms like mine? I would argue that I was better off without my dad around... (he was not a great influence, tho he ended up being really cool once I was an adult, weird).

Do you know how many straight people are horrible parents? Gay people can't possibly be worse parents, at worst they can be just as bad.

Also, how many families don't fit the "standard" Hollywood picture. One parent dies, divorces and re-mariages, grandparents or aunts taking care a large chunk of childcare, etc.

I dunno if they'd have the material - significantly lower divorce rate than straight marriage, see. Although, I guess it wouldn't be the first "reality" TV show to make shit up...

Yeah. The _only_ reason there's any "debate" about this is because some people apparently have really serious problems accepting reality when it doesn't conform to their expectations. And the only reason _that_ isn't considered pathological is because it's become culturally accepted and encouraged.

There is no good-faith argument against gay marriage... none.... every argument I have ever heard amounts to 'I don't like gay people and I don't want society to legitimize their relationships'
The idea of 'traditional marriage' is insane to me... Marrying for love is a new concept that we all assume is ordinary... One Man/One Woman is also relatively modern (and less so in Utah)... the idea that we would impose some Western religious tradition to marriage is bizarre to me in a country....

Yes, it is the law (a polygamist that moves to the US, let's say someone from Saudi Arabia would be denied an immigration visa).
This is not a defense of polygamy, but if everyone is a consenting adult, I can't see how it affects me... and the fact that the cost of living is too high for two adults, we may see that law go away.

A close friend was terrified of gay marriage being legalized, cuz he knew that as soon as it happened, his boyfriend was going to force him to put a ring on it... and he did not want to make that kind of commitment (I will note that he had been in that relationship for 20+ years and had raised like four kids in it)....
And when Obergefell was decided he spent $150k on a wedding and proved that straight people should not bother trying... seriously, a full fireworks display, at a wedding?

They were pretty wealthy... one was a CIO for a Fortune 1000 company, the other a Comptroller for a Fortune 1000 company... they did ok.
