don't get me wrong, hasselblads are nice cameras, but are also imo not worth it. I spent thousands on lenses and that is were you will see the biggest changes, even if you just have the lowest end canon.

ah, I suspected as much (but only know a little surface level stuff about cameras) Reminds me a bit of the whole coffee/espresso scene where people would sometimes buy *hugely* expensive espresso makers but knowledgeable folks kept telling people to buy good grinders first.

Its one thing I genuinely miss about the hobby. Especially like 15 years ago when it was less common. Not mad about it but consumer dSLRs and mirrorless cameras became kinda ubiquitous, but in like 2009 if you had a camera on your neck and spotted someone with one too, you had to nerd out with them for a bit, that was the rule.

I got into photography because I understand composition, lighting and subject. (I'm an Interior Designer) I found that so many people have amazing equipment and don't understand what they are shooting. Conversely, I have no idea a good ISO or F Stop. Live in Mexico and so much great subject matter. Just need to take a class.

I always liked when people showed genuine interest in my gear back when I did wildlife photography. I'd let anyone who wanted to look through my 600mm f/4 and try and get a shot of a bird in flight. It's so much fun to share stuff like that.

It's a medium format camera, so for one, a huge chunk of silicon that gets exponentially more expensive to produce without flaws the larger the area. But you get either large photo sites for a much lower noise floor or ridiculously high resolution for the same size as a smaller sensor, and then the circle of confusion is larger so everything about has a narrower depth of field for the same aperture value.

But not only is the back heavy and bulky, but the lenses are much bigger. I shoot on a micro 4/3 because I can always have it with me without a fuss... the camera back + a nifty fifty lens will literally fit in my coat pocket and weighs about 500g.

I recently upgraded to a mint NIB iPhone 4S; so I would fit right in. It's nice to have a super long battery life and it makes good calls, and there's no AI bullshit on it because the OS maxed out at v 9.3.6 ten years ago.
I used it when I'm traveling because no pickpocket in their right mind wants it.

I found myself at a Pepsi commercial shoot featuring Gloria Estafan & Miami Sound Machine back in early '87 in Florida. Was quietly taking a few shots on my Canon AE-1 Program with a 28-75 zoom from the back of the room when this older guy with a camera (younger than I am now) starts walking toward me from the front. I'm thinking... "oh shit. I'm effed." He walks up and asks what I'm using. Starts talking about my F-stop setting and ISO and tells me to come up toward the front. Blew my mind!

IIRC, that was actually my single-touch 28-85 zoom. Not a 28-75. The camera was stolen later that year at Disneyland on my honeymoon. Still have those pics those.
