I am happy to have grown up during the Renaissance. Made my childhood worth living

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

ITT: People who don't understand that this isn't a ranking of the movies.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Right?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

funfact: Treasure planet was the their most expensive and most money spent project. i think it was cus it was their first 3d 2d collage film

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

and it was still god awful

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

what was your favorite?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The day I got stuck watching Wreck It Ralph turned into a wonderful surprise. That movie is freakin' great.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The experimental era's first movie. The butterfly one. What is that? How come i dont know it? Didney!

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Fantasia 2000

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck you. I like Fox and the Hound.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

it's chronological you fool

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Thank you for clarifying. I couldn't tell from the dates.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When I was growing up, Atlantis was my favorite Disney movie, the historical/sci-fi combination was aligned so well with what I was into.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Still is one of my favorite Disney movies. It's an absolutely fantastic movie. The soundtrack the characters, the story the world. All great

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't care what era you're from, as long as you make for a good gameplay section in Kingdom Hearts.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Heh

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So where in here does “Song of the South” fall?

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

The DARK ages

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty sure Disney wants everybody to forget about that movie.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Also the Three Caballeros. But both are live action/animation hybrids, so they don't really fit in with the others.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It came out in 1946. It's that one we don't talk about between the golden and silver ages

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Fantasia (and 2000 to a much lesser extent) is the greatest creation to ever come out of Disney. Just my opinion.

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 2

Dat Chernabog part though, holy damn. Badass

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But goddamn, do I love those dark ages films.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You’re going to try to tell me that the Fox and the Hound is in the motherfucking Dark Ages? Get the fuck out.

8 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 12

So take out the cute fox and dog and replace it with literally anything else. It's an awful, dark story

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I hope you mean awfully dark, not awful and dark. cause that movie was great and dark.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's got nothing to do with the film quality, you potato.

8 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 2

Aye, I was surprised too. But ya gotta think about all the violence that goes on in that movie. It has some very depressing scenes.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 4

Its economic timeframes not a rating or status you daft nut. Disney films weren't making much money in the dark age.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm just shaking my head at all the idiots in the comments who think this is a rating system, do they not see the years?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Bitch what da FUCK u calling the Dark age

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The time period where the movies were thematically darker and also they didn't make as much money? Still good movies...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was raised during the Renaissance which might be the reason why I love those movies; the score, story, the essence, animation!

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

Same. Now, even as a strait adult male w/o kids, I'm collecting them. These were, and still are, some of the most memorable movies for me.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I would argue Tarzan should fall under experimental. They used and tested the boundaries of new cg techniques seen thereafter.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Tarzan made good money so it gets to be in the renaissance Experimental is really "Box Office bust age"

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

the formula for the Renaissance was that they're based off of old legends and tales, so I guess it fits. I see your point though!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fox n hound was some dark shit

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The Aristocats is the best Disney movie.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

Not sure about the "best," but still pretty damn good.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Thats because everybody wants to be a cat

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'll join the small band of people who agree with you.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

The experimental was one of my favorites. But Oliver and Company was dark ages? Makes me sad

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Though Disney had financial troubles before its "Dark Age". It's mostly why Robin Hood has some recycled animation.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Oliver and Company was an awesome movie.. deserves way more credit than it got.

8 years ago | Likes 99 Dislikes 4

It's too 80's. And it shows. Other movies that became classics are more timeless.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For the longest time, I only remembered that move for the poodle, Georgette. No idea why, of everyone, she left the biggest impact on me

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Named my tabby after him

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Keep your dream alive! Dreaming is still how the strong survive.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Words to live by

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My thoughts exactly :)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I 100% agree, I loved that movie.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also if not for it, Disney wouldn't have purchased their CAPS computer system, and the reinassiance would not have happened.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good movie, but I can't watch it because of the scene where the all the kittens get taken out of the cardboard box except Oliver, and then>

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

it rains the box fills up/breaks. I know it gets better for him, but it reminds me of all the kitties it doesn't get better for, and I cry.

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

It's also got one of the saddest songs ever sang by Huey Lewis.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So much this. I find myself unable and unwilling to rewatch Disney movies that made me very sad as a child. I haven't seen Oliver (1)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

and Company since I was smol (2)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

“Experimental” is a kind way of saying “corporate failing in trying to figure out a strategy to compete against Pixar”.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Not to mention the influx of other major studio's new CG departments who also were/are trying to compete with Pixar.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Except Disney owns Pixar

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Disney bought Pixar in 2006, so many of the films from that era and slightly beyond were produced in competition.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

AFIK, every feature length film Pixar has ever made was a Disney film, so while they didn't own Pixar, they weren't in competition either.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Although Pixar partnered with Disney for distribution, they were creatively and corporately separate until 2006.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Right, but that's not competition. Disney directly benefited financially from their production and release. They were Disney movies.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Princess and the frog in revival when it should be experimental like it was. Being the first hand drawn in years but it wasn't received well

8 years ago | Likes 156 Dislikes 9

I saw Princess and the Frog 7 times in theaters with my best friend. We LIVED for that movie

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah, it marks the return of Disney going back to its princess/fairy tale roots and more classic storytelling, as opposed to the

8 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 1

weird stuff that was they tried during experimental

8 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 2

Experimental? Nah. It was the last dying ember of golden age. The last traditionally animated blockbuster Disney movie.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Experimental/revival would be Flash animation like (don't hurt me), Ponies, which now results in quality shit like new Duck Tales.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I received it well.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Genuinely my favourite Disney Princess movie and so beautifully animated. I still believe lack of advertising failed that film.

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

I believe it also came out on the same weekend as a fucking Harry Potter movie, like... It's not QUITE "Release an Alvin and the >

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

It came out the weekend before Avatar. No one could have predicted Avatar would have blown the world away. 4 months after HP. (so not releva

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hm, I may be remembering it wrong. Well regardless, I'll defend PatF with my dying breath. It deserved more love than Disney gave it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

< Chipmunks movie on the same weekend as a Star Wars movie", but that's STILL kinda suicide.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Y'all from Shreveport??

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Yes

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I actually lived there for a while, pretty cook to hear it mentioned

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure the Disney Pixar conglomerate has made way better stuff in this time frame.

8 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 1

Where is Bugs Life? Finding Nemo?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

And some really good stuff at that.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Big 3 were Disney, Dreamworks, and Pixar, right? I think Pixar was its own thing before Disney bought them? I'd like to see that chart.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Pixar started as part of Lucasfilm, was spun out as an independent company (with funding from Apple). Disney bought them 20 years later.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Holy shit. That's quite the history there. Thanks!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

1986-2006 they were independent, but didn't do a full-length movie until Toy Story in 1995. WALL-E is their only full-length movie that's

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

not 100% CG, since it has a little bit of live action in it.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The CG stuff is hardly a revival. It's more of a backsliding.

8 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 22

Its economic timeframes not a rating or status.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

New princesses characters ideas. Its a revival in the genere

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

Yeah, maybe I'm a cartoon hipster or something but those classic hand drawn animations are just the best.

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 4

Hence golden and silver age!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Silver Age was the height when the animators developed the philosophies that made the work stand out. That era work is better than Renn era.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is not a ranked list. It's not calling the movies "good" or "bad". The eras refer to the public's reaction at the time.

8 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 2

Okay but it's still missing a ton of movies that invalidate the eras. Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc in early 2000s but Bolt is there

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They left out Pixar films.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc. were Pixar Studio Animation (with affiliation with Disney), whereas Bolt was strictly Disney Animation

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Amazing how many idiots here don't seem to be able to read numbers or understand the concept of "ages"

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

I don’t understand it. What does it mean? Why are they classified as different eras? What significance does the name of each era have?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For exampleduring the golden age Disney raked in a lot of money, the movies were popular and critically acclaimed 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

during the Dark age Disney didn't make a lot of money, the public perception wasn't that great either.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ok that makes sense, thank you for explaining it to me. I really wanted to know, even at the risk of you thinking I’m an idiot

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where. THE FUCK. Is The Goofy Movie.

8 years ago | Likes 516 Dislikes 13

Skittly wop bop a doo bop! Wow...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Forget Goofy Movie. Where's the DuckTales movie?!

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Its sitting up in platinum status all by itself

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

POWERLINE FOR LIFE!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The Goofy Movie is the best movie

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

It's not counted as an official "Disney Animated Feature" because It was done by DisneyToon Studios, which exclusively makes sequels.

8 years ago | Likes 100 Dislikes 1

Oh okay haha! Thanks

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A goofy movie is the only great movie to come out of that branch that I know of.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I guess it didn't Stand Out enough for this post

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

All it needs is half a chance... a second thought... a second glance'll prove it's got whatever it takes.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Even though I don’t agree, I will try to see I 2 I with you.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

But it did have a perfect cast.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

*Where. THE HYUCK. Is. The Goofy Movie.

Underrated comment

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Oh my gawrsh!

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Black Cauldron was nuts. Never would have guessed Disney as a kid. Still kinda cool though.

8 years ago | Likes 1287 Dislikes 3

that movie flopped so hard nearly ran Disney animation into the ground (if I remember right) shame tho

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One of my favourites

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

That and Sword in the Stone are my two favorite "old school" Disney. Hunchback of ND with Tony Jay in it is newer but has similar feel.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Munchies and crunchies for Gurgi.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm disappointed because I don't see even one comment mentioning the books its based on, which are as good as if not better than the film.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

tfw I need to wear my glasses because its top comment.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The villain was so cool

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Black Cauldron almost drove Disney into the ground. It tanked so bad that the company struggled to come back from it.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I didn't know either. Ain't kidding around naming it the dark age.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just rewatched it last night. First time since I was a kid. It’s pretty hardcore for a Disney movie.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

It was the first PG-rated Disney animated movie, and according to IMDB had to be edited twice to avoid a PG-13.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I actually watched it for the first time last night, I completely forgot it was a disney movie till the end credits.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Some asshat at the studio removed a bunch of footage from the film last minute

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

supposedly it included an infant's reanimated corpse, and mild nudity, as well as the shadow of a villager getting impaled. got an R rating

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Do these scenes exist anywhere or are they lost forever to the cutting room floor?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Most likely a Disney vault somewhere. It's said someone important at Disney has a full black and white version

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There was a Sierra adventure game based on the movie. It was fun, hmm may need to head off to the internet archives and play it again...

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The adventure game was what got me interested in the books. You couldn't buy the movie for years; I didn't see it until I was like 20.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The only thing I remember was dying repeatedly trying to climb the ivy up the castle wall. But, that's a Sierra adventure game for ya!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It was somewhat different to the other Sierra games back then.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's the Dark Souls of Disney films.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 5

Someone needs to make a Band of Brothers type series for Chronicles of Prydain. There’s too many mini adventures in the books for movies.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Stupid movie scarred me so bad it actually caused me to sleepwalk once. whenever I watched it I had to skip through the parts with the HK

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Love it! I got to go to the premire in NY to see it! Was nuts!

Black cauldron?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wanted to like it but just couldn't. Everyone is so annoying, especially Gollum.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 6

Gurgi loves his munchies and crunchies. ????

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

He is always ready for sneakings and peakings.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No munchies and crunchies for gurgi

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

the BC SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My babysitter took me to see it when I was 6 and it scared me so bad I spilled my drink on her and missed half the movie hiding my eyes

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My dad LOVES this movie, and when I was little he somehow got me to watch it. Stupid Horned bastard scared me so bad it made me sleepwalk.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Poor Gurgi... #never_forget v

8 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

Munchies and crunchies in here somewhere

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks for bringing that up.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I honestly hated gurgi, as a kid and even now

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

There were some weird parallels between Gurgi and Sméagol.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Disney's rebooting it as a series to better reflect the Prydain Chronicles

8 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

Sauce? Can't find it online

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh god no, I’m afraid they’ll make Lloyd Alexander roll over in his grave

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Sounds like they were inspired by Terry Brooks' success with Shannara adaptation to return to that license they still had for the series

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Man, FUCK Shannara. Show COMPLETELY ruins the magic of that world, they force the "dead future" thing WAY too hard. And the Druids suck.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean, at least it got my dad to read the books.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well let's go stick his corpse in the black cauldron and he can fight it out with Walt's popsicle.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

If you haven't read the books they are very good. The movie doesn't do them justice at all.

8 years ago | Likes 179 Dislikes 2

And "the books" slaughter mythology of Wales, so it's all fine.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

Alexander was very open that he was inspired by Welsh mythos, but it wasn't meant to be a retelling.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You should look into a good retelling of the Mabinogi, though. And then marvel how he made such a delightful, light and fun story of it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Seriously. The only book where I've cried at the freakin dedication. I will never get rid of those books.

8 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

So much this. They are truly fantastic books with well developed characters w/ genuine motivations and purpose, and a great mythos.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

You have no idea how happy I am to finally find someone else who’s read the books.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I have a signed letter from Mr. Alexander. I loved all his books. From Time Cat to Prydain to Lukas Kasha...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you for saying this. So stoked to see Black Cauldron in this list. My all time fav books. I just want Cain to tend to his cabbages

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

But I fuckin loved the movie when I was little. Maybe I should get on those books.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cynicism aside, you really should.

This movie deserves platinum age status, it's fucking phenomenal.

8 years ago | Likes 1670 Dislikes 17

It looks bonkers as balls

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its economic timeframes not a rating or status there is no platinum age.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I watched this one every day for a week when I was 4 or 5 and then never watched it again. I need a refresher.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love this movie but I HATE that they recycled so much animation from the jungle book, even as a little kid. I felt ripped off.

Still my favourite version of Robin Hood. Like, of ALL the movies made of that story.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And we don’t give a fuck how much of the animation was recycled.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My cat has no interest in tv but ALWAYS watches this with me. Since he first came to me.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

A wonderful movie. I've watched it very often as a kid. Last week I've watched it again (in parts) with my one year old son. We loved it.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The best Disney movie imo.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Agreed, 100%.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That animated Robin Hood was my first romantic crush. Very perv-worthy.

8 years ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 0

I can't argue with you there.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

With you all the way!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

MRW i realize many of the animation sequences were recycled in the Jungle Book

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 4

Other way around. Jungle Book came first, released in 1967 vs Robin Hood in 1973.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Silver is just the age. The silverish tint of the film. It was not meant to imply that it is second to anything.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My #1 Disney movie, for sure.

They're getting better you've got to admit it. They ARE getting better.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's the thing with the old Disney movies. They were so good that you appreciate them even more as adults today than as a child.

It's my ringtone. I'm a 39yo guy.

Loved that song as a kid. I called it the chicken song on account of it being whistled by a chicken

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Literally just watch the opening sequence on hullu because I was whistling it

Great Mouse Detective was Dark Age? Really?

Apparently. _. _ \ (0) (0) / —

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 15

Yes. Watch the Documentary, Waking Sleeping Beauty. Does a great job telling the story of making it to the Renaissance.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Basil was the Don. Loved that film

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You wouldn't believe how many people don't know what that movie actually is. I always say it's my favorite and they have never heard of it

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

its been unfairly treated. It was the film that lead to the Renaissance. The doorway should get some credit, even if it isn't as strong.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It was the shining star in an other wise dull area for Disney

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

it's a bit of a coin toss for some people. some see it as the end of the dark age, others as the beginning of the renaissance.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

forgiveth the mistakers

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dude ratigan is fucked up and fidget is fucking creepy. And they kidnap a little girls father. Pretty dark

8 years ago | Likes 72 Dislikes 0

It’s FANTASTIC

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Oh don't get me wrong, I agree, it's one of my all time favorite Disney movies

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

mine too. :)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The plot of 101 Dalmatians was literally about skinning a ton of dogs. That should constitute fairly dark.

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Also voiced by Vincent Price. They doubled-down there

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

such a good performance on his part. He seemed like a fun guy.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If anyone wants more context on the dark age https://youtu.be/06V9kRSA9RM

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is think of it as dark as in the movies themselves were dark. Shit, the great mouae detective had blood in it!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Yeah, in the defense of the movie tho, it was the movie that help set off the Renaissance. There's a vid on YouTube that explains it better

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

Yeah I remember that!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Looks like Oliver from Oliver and Company

8 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

Absolutely my favorite as a kid. I still have a stuffed Oliver!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Absotively Posilutely!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My favorite fucking movie ever to come into existence.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Except that's not that old, I think

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

1988

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Not that old=30 years

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And the Fox and the Hound?!

8 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 6

Not nearly as dark as the books, but still a sad ending.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The books were darker? Did the hunter skin Todd? Wtf.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For starters, the hunter killed Todd's mate and all the kits. That's one of the least disturbing parts.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Huh. Is the book also called fox and the hound? I like berserk and legend of legendary heroes so this sounds like my kind of story.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My favorite old Disney movie. Yeah it's kinda sad... :(

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

*Kinda*?! I decided to try and watch it again a few years ago, I was in tears half way through because I knew.... I knew.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Tim Burton worked as an animator on the fox and the hound.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

A very dark movie.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's called the Dark Age because Disney animated films weren't making much money. Dark because of their relative lack of success.

8 years ago | Likes 506 Dislikes 4

Haha I can't get over your username

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That and the themes and animations were darker than what came before or after.

8 years ago | Likes 138 Dislikes 2

I'd like to point out that The Hunchback of Notre Dame is in the renaissance era. It doesn't get much darker than that one.

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

The Black Cauldron. Still so good (the books too)

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

My son was watching The Black Cauldron at my mom's house and my aunt made him turn it off. She's very religious.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I bet Greek mythology Hercules was cool though

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Get him The Book of Three (that's the first book in the series. The Black Cauldron is book #2). That was my first entry into fantasy books

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure it's dark as in the movies were dark.

8 years ago | Likes 165 Dislikes 8

Really? Haven't seen The Fox and the Hound. Is that really consisted dark?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

yeah Fox and hound is hella dark for a Disney movie. watch it and you'll see

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not half so dark as the book.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Nah, it's dark in reference to Disney's financial troubles because they weren't selling well at the time.

8 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 2

Well that's not true

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 44

Totally is, Disney had some significant losses during that time.

8 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

No, they didnt. They had declining profits in the early 80s, but never a loss. Hired a new CEO in 84 and started gaining again. (1/2)
