No selfies! Ha, just kidding

Impressive!

With someone like Dafoe the only real way to do it was like in Bo Way Home, any other option is wasting that man's face and acting range
UnlimitedTrickPony
the decision for a hard shell mask was made because "the other one was too scary for children" and "hard shell is easier to market for toys"
ItsATrap
Imagine you're a comic nerd, you get a job on a comic movie, one of the first really big ones, you spend all this time and hundreds of thousands of dollars making a comics accurate articulated animatronics mask for the Green Goblin, and they're like, "nah, we're gonna go with vaccuform plastic"
kirmokum
you better get used to that type of switch up pretty fast as it happens on almost every show. also chances are the same people made both.

Why use a motorized goblin face when Willem Dafoe already has oneā¦
smashpro1
Because then it would have been obvious to Peter that Norman was the Green Goblin.
whereismymind86
to a degree that's the actual reason they didn't use it.

was it still a "mask" or his real face?
BenderRodriguz1010
In the comics it is a mask always unless he's somehow mutated like in Ultimate Spider-Man.
BenderRodriguz1010
I suspect that is too
Leaveittojebus
Probably going for something like this, where it's supposed to be so form fitting his facial expressions come through.
BenderRodriguz1010
Yep. Exactly this.
whereismymind86
it's a mask, but it has facial expressions...pretty normal for super hero costume masks really...but it doesn't make a lot of sense when you think about it.
ChazzK
There's apparently an entire industry in the Marvel universe of "easy-pull-on masks that perfectly mold to and adhere to your face." Gobby's got the fancy one that also has a full mouth opening.
... Except for the times when the Goblin Serum *actually does mutate him*, which is INCREDIBLY inconsistent.
Vortain
Yeah the typical mask doesn't do that. But a criminal with lots of money or access to good tech like GG, could potentially create a mask that looks real enough that you would think an actual demon was running around, instead of a guy wearing a shoddy mask. Which would be a strong extra layer of obscuring one's identity.
