The movie really did some solid justice to the book. I remember reading it for the first time and seeing Hunter's (Thompson's? Not sure what he would have preferred) recommendation in the foreword to read it in something close to the state as it was experience a.k.a intoxicated as all hell. I can't imagine trying to read or write at ALL if I was on half as many drugs as that dude took during his trip.
