Etch A Sketch workshop recap!

Happy Monday, fellow Imgurians! On Saturday I taught an Etch A Sketch workshop at the Buder Library in St. Louis. You all were so supportive about my announcement that I figured I'd share a quick post about how the workshop went!

It's showtime!

One of my favorite things about teaching Etch A Sketch workshops is that it brings whole families together. Parents often fondly recollect early childhood memories of trying to tame this beast into compliance, and they get to share that lighthearted and nostalgic frustration with their children.

Another cool thing about teaching Etch A Sketch workshops is that I get to introduce kids to the toy who have never played with it before! Kids of my generation remember Etch A Sketch mostly through Toy Story. Gen Z probably connects Etch A Sketch mostly with the movie Elf. Gen Alpha though? Well they might have watched both of those movies, but what I'm trying to say is that Hollywood needs to step up their game and slip Etch A Sketch into another box office hit. In the meantime I'm happy to do my part to share the Coolest Toy Ever with the children of today - one workshop at a time.

Here I am pointing at something very important! See how I capture the rapt attention of three students while I eloquently explain something!

In this photo I'm talking about the benefits of drawing a flat line under each letter of my name, which makes it easier to connect all of the letters together in a word. I always remind my students that I've got it easy when it comes to the name demo because my name is only 4 letters, after all. I always apologize to the Samanthas and the Alexanders when we get to this portion of the lesson!

I believe I was doing a circle demonstration when this photo was snapped. Circles are always a home run!

It's possible that in this photo I was congratulating everyone for completing their staircases by referring to every student as a Stair Master (ba dum tsst)

I wish I snapped more photos of the student art because they always do such a great job!
