"I'm sorry I thought this was America" Her probably after being detained.
doubledragon707
what is that building on the outside of the bottle then?

To stem any debate, I present to you my bookmarked pre-flight helper: https://apps.tsa.dhs.gov/mytsa/cib_home.aspx

This is very handy! Thanks!

given that the airport is a private entity, it doesnt really matter what it is. they can kick your ass out for anything.
cogs
Airports are usually publicly owned and have local law enforcement, but that's irrelevant. The security area is under federal jurisdiction.
fakeinformation
Security didn't check their matter privileges I'm they aren't matter fluid I'm triggered

I had to re-read that several times to be sure I wasn't the one having a stroke.

YEAH SCIENCE BITCH!
BoozeHound001
you are allowed to bring solid ice because the explosive chemicals can't freeze. Asked my friend when he got a TSA job.
cousteau
I'm getting contradictory messages from the comments... I just know you can bring an empty bottle and fill it later.
That as well.
I bet this worked out well.
wabewalker
TSA agent thought about it so long, it went from day to evening.
TallDude
Well, those lines do move rather slow.
unicdk
I mean, it's probably safe, if it can be frozen and stay frozen for an extended period of time it's unlikely to be combustible.

Just detain her for half an hour with the water bottle next to a heater, then give it back to take away again.

I did this with yogurt! Forgot it was in my purse and it looked awful with two container of yogurt and a bunch of cords and a phone...

Do you want a cavity search? Because that's how you get a cavity search.

Actually it's legal to take a frozen bottle of water.
SuckItPeasants
I assume that's because it proves it's not an explosive substance?

you're now on the list, smarty pants.

So is everyone else. Doesn't take shit to get put on a list in the US.

If you're not on some government watchlist somewhere, you should be ashamed of yourself.

by the time she gets through security it will be...

technically the air we breathe is also a liquid so following tsa logic, we have to hold our breath for the entirety of the flight.
MyPalmsSpaghettiKneesWeakArmsSpaghettiTheresVomitOnMySpaghetti
I just choked on my gaseous coffee
kenzierocks
Air is a *fluid, not liquid.
DarthROFLs
One of many reasons I avoid air travel like the plague. I used to need to take a liter, plus what I could get out of cabin staff to drink.
You know you can bring an empty water container and fill it up after the check point, right?
I do know that :) I once got someone on X-rays yelling "OMG a bottle!", but not like the situation didn't get solved by saying "It's empty"
DLSLargo
Don't use logic on these people it's like black sorcery
HedgehogChomp
Just had to bring race into this didn't you!
HiddenWill
People actually don't know this?
Perhaps people that don't fly. They may think the checkpoint is just before getting on the plane.
Lavaflow
Some places it is. Off the top of my head I'm fairly sure Schiphol/Amsterdam is like that, and there are probably others.
I do all US domestic flying and I'd always assume there's a food court after the checkpoint. So I wouldn't know otherwise!
idislikecomingupwithuniqueusernames
I've never had water at an airport that didn't taste like it came out of the toilet.
GlitterInTheDarkNearTheTannhauserGate
stop drinking out of the toilet then
But it's right there!!
That's the pressurization effects. It throws off your taste buds.
I mean at the airport, not on the airplane.
Oh, that is from recycling. They empty all the confiscated water bottles into a communal well, then pump it to the water fountains.
LimerickGoblin
When it comes to airport security, it's classified as a liquid if the substance is a liquid at room temperature. Wouldn't work.
VillagerJeff
Heavily insulated bottle of magma it is then.
See, this is way more specific than the "if it can become a liquid" version.
Dictatorschmitty
This is America, dammit! You can't ban cheese!
chloramphenicolderivative
What about pressure? Is it standard conditions or just room temperature?
Plunderdownunder
welp. looks like I'm bringing a high pressure tank on board
I think those are specifically forbidden too, though.
ferrybig
Time to increase the pressure inside the bottle to force freeze the water
HorseMcFucker
Grrreat, so I can bring 20 pounds of metal that melts at 36'c or higher?
Finally a situation where Gallium is useful!

Unless they changed that recently the rule as I recall was always that ice is allowed as long as there is no liquid in the container.
Nobody said anything about the pressure it has to be under...
GeoTeacher
Pretty sure the state of the substance wouldn't be the issue at that point
BigBadBillyBoy
No pressurized containers.

I was allowed to freeze breastmilk with ice cubes packing and bring that through tsa
pizzabubble7
Breast milk is an exception to the liquid rule, I think.
spiritussancto
breast milk and medications are allowed in any quantities

If you have a baby with you there are a lot of exceptions to airport rules
When I want to travel with weapons, I just borrow my buddy's baby.
