This was a video. It broke during the many attempts to upload the post and I missed it, I apologize

An Autoclave is a machine that uses high pressure steam to kill bacteria, viruses, and stuff by heating the steam to a specific temperature for a given time.

#9 that's what's so funny to me about that scene. They could have just written it differently. Make the plan go down on it's own as a result of the final fight or allied fighters shoot out the engines because their radios were down and it crashes or literally anything other than "i need to make sure this unmanned craft crashes with me in it."

#22 Consulting for a major credit company, I had to literally board a plane and fly there to put a computer in safe mode and reinstall a bad driver. It took longer to get through security than to fix the issue that 4 people couldn't fix before me.
Worth mentioning: I was not a Windows or Server consultant.

I remember my husband had to fly from Boston to Chicago to fix an executive's home computer. That job had amazing perks though

#20 Vegas cab driver says "It was better when the Mob ran things." Passenger expresses doubt. Cab driver says "The Mob were using it for money laundering. So if the slot machines pay out too often, the steak dinner is below cost, the entertainment is outrageous... They don't give a shit. Have fun, whatever, why not. Then the money people come, they say you're bleeding money into the desert, you gotta stop giving things away. So now it's not as good."

#38 this is the duality of man. We want basics provided for or be able to have dignity in work. We want everyone to be safe, happy, and warm. But who among us wouldn't spend as much as possible on ourselves given the chance. Whether it's a feature upgrade or a special treat.
Man is forever plagued with desire. To reach beyond our grasp. If I won the lottery, I'd give a ton away but I'm paying off my bills and buying a jet ski.

The mark of man is the production of his own needs. The mark of a person is his capacity to abate those passions for longer-term ideas and projects.

#22

People don't know how to use computers. They only know how to use the applications they need for their job. I'm not saying that's a failing on their part. Most have no interest in learning beyond that and that's okay.

When I worked in an office I was the defacto IT helpdesk for everyone. I saved a lot of calls to the actual IT helpdesk because I knew how to solve quite minor issues, working within the bounds of what was possible within system policy restrictions. Because it interested me.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is nothing more frustrating than being IT and having to call the help desk and trying to convince tier 1 that you know what the problem is and simply don't have the access to fix it

I lived in Southeast Asia.

Most people in those zones have evolved habits and building styles over thousands of years to compensate, whereas America insists on building identical cities in wildly different and sometimes barely habitable locations and expects AC to pick up the slack. In a sane world, Las Vegas would not exist

and I like cold, nobody gets to see my interminably-aging body, I don’t sweat like a water fountain, and I don’t smell like a donkey’s gooch.

also I have four wheel drive and am capable of using the brake pedal so the driving thing’s… kinda non-issue.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, ai give in Canada so I KNOW how to drive in this weather lol. If I have the option to make the snow disappear and put it elsewhere, then I will gladly do so.

#17 As someone who's always cold, you can only put on so many sweaters and so many blankets. It's fine now that I wfh and can use a heated blanket, but when I used to work in the office we weren't allowed any heating devices. I'd wear long underwear, a shirt, two wool sweaters, two pairs of socks, fingerless gloves, and when at my desk I'd put a blanket on my lap and wear a wool shawl. You can only stop so much heat from escaping, and past that point you need a heat source. These memes are /1

always ignoring the case where you don't have enough control over the environment to stay warm. It's horrible being freezing cold, day in and day out. Even some of the men were too cold, and would put packing tape over the vents to try to keep the constant cold breeze down. Even in winter, the breeze was always cold. It was awful. /2

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When you get that chilled too you can't warm up after even in a warmer environment. I hate being cold.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That sounds like a symptom if I'm being honest. Granted, there might be some non-harmful conditions that just makes the person feel cold when body is actually funcitonal, but if I were you I'd check it out thoroughly!

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you, but I wasn't the only one that cold, not by a long shot. Basically all of the women, and some of the men, were layering up. I'd meet other women at the bathroom sink, holding their hands under the water to warm them up. I think because we had some huge server rooms, they had to keep the computers cool, and they couldn't fix the temperature differential between the server rooms and the employee offices. Of course we always had some people walking around in shorts, too. It depended /1

I completely missed the fact you talked about your work place, d'oh! That just sounds like your employer is an asshole who doesn't understand proper working conditions.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I do get cold at home now, but I'm 20 years older. :) So that has a lot to do with it. And boy do I love my electric blanket in the winter.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

how close your office was to one of the vents, and what the airflow was like in your area. The whole thing was a mess. Temperature readings were room temperature, though, so they wouldn't do anything about it. It was the cold air whooshing around that was the issue. Some people gave off so much heat that they didn't notice the air pulling their extra heat away, but many of us did not, and we suffered. That's why I get pretty testy at these "just put on a sweater" posts. It doesn't help. /2
