Well, there are some Europeans who are on ICE's side... for example my sister's idiot of a fiancé. I don't really go to FB that much anymore, so I don't come across the shit he posts and comments there, but my other sister told me about it. I did see some comments siding with ICE under a news article and I'm just disgusted by some people. I certainly hope I won't have to hear about any world news next month when I go to a cruise. Last year 2 right wingers cornered me in the bus on the way there.

It's important to remember that you can drive across many European countries in a few hours, when I've spent the better part of the day driving in the same state. Even Americans have a difficult time understanding how large their country is, and how many people it contains.

Our country is run by 535 members of congress. Each citizen gets to vote for exactly THREE of those positions. And, we do vote for president, but even the one with fewer votes can be elected, as we've seen twice already in the 2000s. Once elected, a president appoints a fuckton of people no one voted for. And finally, we have a system IN PLACE that is supposed to prevent literally Donald Trump from being elected, and for reasons no one knows, most of that process was actually made illegal.

Racism and bigotry had been pretty well compartmentalized. You could find yourself in a rural area and be accepted as a non-white person, or given glaring eye cold shoulder treatment. Most larger cities have a lot of integration, so there's less of it.
The trouble is, this nation would never tackle racism head on. We were taught about the Civil Rights movements of the 1960's and the importance of Dr. Martin Luther King... but it ended there. As if the problems were solved. They weren't.

Yes *and* no. It’s complicated. So while you’re right that this is systemic and essential to some degree, it hasn’t always been like *this*. I’m no apologist, I find myself closer to “abolitionist” on any given day, but there’s a subtle bit of logic at play here that complicates it — while it’s always been this to some degree, it hasn’t always been this to THIS degree. So surely it’s systemic, but equally as surely, this state of disrepair also has to have some other structural cause.

It very scary here. If you push back any, you are watched, targeted, possibly arrested… and now could be killed. It will have to be a civil war in my opinion to make this right. I hate that. I don’t want any war. Who knows if that would work. It’s bad and I know it will get worse. I hope the other countries understand several of us don’t agree with what is happening.

And it's not like we're dealing with fucking muskets and bayonets here. They are the biggest military power in the world and have crazy technology that we can do nothing against. We do, but many of us cannot comprehend how he got reelected. I didn't want to do it, but I observed the right by tuning into right-wing programs and social media silos.
You would not believe how bad it is. I have no idea how much of what I saw represents the land... but I'll wager that a lot of people who voted Republican did so because of so much disinformation influence.
Disinformation is a terrible thing. And when major news outlets push it, it's a dangerous thing. US gov't needs to do something about it. It's worse than the lax gun laws.

MAGA is a cult. And they account for a great many of the 29% of the population who voted for him. He tells them what they want to hear, that they're special, that they're smart, and that it's okay to hate people based on the color of their skin, or their gender, or their sexual orientation. He tells them they're right, and everyone else is wrong. And they love him for it.
As for the 1/3 who didn't vote at all? They just didn't want to vote for a Black woman.
