I was pulled out of class by our commandant of the academy. A lesbian herself. Just before a 6 mile run in the mountains outside of Colorado Springs. Classmates had found out I was gay and were planning on getting me off trail and "teaching me a lesson". She warned me to be careful and quiet because it was already hitting the street that I was gay and she was worried about my safety going forward.

OJ Simpson had just happened and I became the expert on LGBT relationships and how to handle domestic disputes because so much of the world was changing around reporting domestic abuse.
