Don't be ridiculous

Cause it's not as if all of these things have been done

FP edit:
Lots of people have brought up that the military would not support a Trump coup. That's great and all, but even if there wasn't support from even the smallest handful of soldiers, what about the OTHER government agencies? There are federal, state, and local departments that have been given military equipment for decades. Those people have already gone this far carrying out Trump's orders. How much further might they be willing to go? And will the military be willing to stop them if those agents DO support a Trump coup? And what about any potential state governments that stand with or against Trump whether he wins or loses? My intent is not to say 'military bad, mindless drones', but all of this put together is very scary even with the military on the side of the people.

Tbh, i have a feeling "the powers that be" would kill Trump and family before letting them turn America into a dictatorship, heck, his days-

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

are numbered even if he doesn't go dictator, who would take the chance of Trump using secrets of state as ammo to get further?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Running the country as an authoritarian dictatorship would help enrich the 1% that already hold power. It's not hyperbole to say that this

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

is something they would absolutely push for.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I read "progress" as "congress" for a sec, and just kind of nodded. They're letting this happen- have been for 3+ years. Death to the GOP.

Precisely this. So many people aren't even considering how bad this could get and flatly dismissing any notion of it.

6 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

I recognize how bad this could get, but military leadership seems to have made their position clear and pretty sure every other government

He's also done a huge list of things to hurt the people in MAGA hats who continue to follow every step he takes without question.

Whoa there, educated people can be easily manipulated too. It's just less likely.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's true, large majority of intelligent Republican officers and scientists in defense and military did not vote for trump.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Trump has broken so many laws but the conservatives fully support him.Why do you think the military, for example, will suddenly disobey Trump?

6 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 11

Agree. I don’t see anyone or anything stopping him. It’s a Groundhog Day nightmare.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not American here, could you explain how that would work?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So basically not long ago actually, congress made it law that presidential terms end explicitly on January 20th. On that day we (1/?)

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

either swear in a president (whether new or returning) or a chain of succession engages past the administration, which means the (2/?)

The point is Trump WILL dispute. SCOTUS, majority Trump’s judges, will give him the presidency like they did for Bush jr in 2000.

Even so, not their jurisdiction, no authority to make arrests and still violation of 4th Amendment, appearing to be meant to intimidate.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not a citizen's arrest, waiting for authorities, it's no ID feds picking up people in unmarked vans.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not breaking any rules? Really?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, really.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Doesn’t matter, the military will not do it. They have an oath to uphold the constitution, this is just silly.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Not the US military anyway.

The military will uphold the constitution, if trump is not following, the military will take decisive action.

Enough of them would. I was Army for 12 years, still work for the military as a contractor. There are more than enough soldiers itching for

Trump isnt conservative. Military officers are college educated and intelligent. Trump hasnt had support from much military leadership.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That is utter horseshit

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Can you say that with certainty? That not even a handful would join him and cause damage?

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 9

Obviously not. Though he’s certainly done nothing to engender support there however. In fact he’s continually shit on them.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They have a contractual duty to follow their commander in chief and not some shlub. So yeah...it can be said with relative certainty.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And if Trump disputes the election if he loses? That gives a good out for people to say 'he is still the commander in chief though'

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which people? The person who gets sworn into office is the prez, not the dude contesting it.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's the thing though. What happens if a President says 'no, the election is wrong' ? It has never happened before in this country.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, stop this pathetic fear mongering. The US obeys the order of the President but above all else is LOYAL TO THE CONSTITUTION FIRST.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The point is that if the President is claiming he should still be President because the election is fraudulent, who do they believe?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He will lose by a significant margin. But even if he isn't, barring an insane Supreme Court decision, the military WON'T back him. Christ!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fine, you win, no damage whatsoever if Trump says the election is null. It won't matter *in the slightest* if he tries to contest the 1/

Dude, I was enlisted, I can at least say I wouldn't and my peers would've upheld their oath, nothing more and nothing less. If you need some

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

some small comfort know the military has built in ethics as ironic as that is. It's literally an institutionalized aspect of serving.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This can be seen in our training, learning about lawful orders, rules of engagement, ethical standards in leadership. It is quantifiable.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which is more than most elected officials ever have under their belt. Our military will serve it's people, not oppress them.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Your average grunt might night be able to say posse comitatus but I promise he knows the implications of it.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is a difference between a handful and an Army. The military as a whole wouldn’t join him.

6 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

As a whole? Of course not. Enough to make it messy? Definitely. Enough for a civil war? We'll see.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 8

Do you know how the military works, like, at all? We're not goddamn hired mercenaries.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tell that to the man who has tried to hire you out to Saudi Arabia and bragged about turning you into mercenaries.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yeah but what's the tipping point? Assume similar numbers to the general population, and that's about 1/3 of military personnel that still 1

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

support trump. Even if only half of those are on board with military rule, you're still looking at over 200,000 trained personnel.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

But not all in combat, and more importantly, the majority are gonna take the infrastructure with them, shoot move communicate doesn’t work..

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Let's assume for a moment that even if every single member of the military, from the highest ranking generals to the lowliest of privates 1/

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

is completely set against Trump if he tries to order them to support him in a coup, you forget there are other heavily armed federal, 2/

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

state, and local agencies that are itching for a fight and who have proven they will go to any lengths Trump orders them. Is it really 3/

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

The military already reminded its ranks of their oath recently. Seems they are quite ready to not follow him on this. If we assume the 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

worst then in that scenario it would be the worst. The reality is likely quite different. Goes against culture. 2/2

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Also, har har I plan well, a number of military leaders have expressed that Trump is a dumb shit. They don't respect him.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I get what this guy is saying but the guys in Portland arent the military. For the 100th time. It's a bunch of random federal agents

6 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

And even at that the main federal agents doing funky shit are CBP guys who aren't all that scary nor all that big in number to really (1/?)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

help trump somehow stay in power come the 20th of January. (2/2)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

No but the military HAS been called in to support police, even if it is mostly to just stand around, and then there's Trump's threats

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 9

The national guard is different from the -military- to be fair.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The national guard is part of the reserves of the US Army and US Air Force

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

But under the command of the individual states as opposed to federal, or the constitution

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Not that it makes it any better, it’s still escalation of force but I don’t want to be lumped in with this

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

NG is both state and federal, beholden to state and federal chains and constitutions. Which is currently boss depends on activation type.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Functionally, whats the difference between "the military" and "federal agents" when they have access to the same equipment and gov backing?

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

Numbers, discipline, and trust.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Numbers sure, discipline? Debatable. Trust? From whose point of view?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Military? Definitely more discipline, and trust? We've come a long way since Vietnam

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can we ask Iraqi and Afghan civilians circa 2003 to current about discipline and trust?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Numbers and training. Especially if the military not only doesn't support but opposes any sort of tyrannical shenanigans.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Nothing... People are afraid to say it as it is, he's sending armed mercenaries.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Wait are they soldiers. Mercenaries. Or federal agents. You cant even keep your conspiracies straight. These are federal agents

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If they’re indeed federal agents, they’re not mercenaries

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You realize all the 'same equipment' you see those guys largely wearing is literally easily obtained by civilians too right?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup, well aware. Does that change the functional difference between the military and federal agents here though?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Yes. Because the military and federal agents have different levels of authority. Training and legally mandated powers

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Except there are no "military" agents here. CBP nor FPS are military agents. They are federal agents/officers, the former of which (1/?)

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

seems to have largely been supplemented with people who like trump not surprisingly but they're still not even close to "a power" in (2/?)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To be fair the thugs he dent out aren't military, join chief of staffs shut him down when he tried to call them to DC for the protests there

It's worse because they're untrained amateurs with the lethal tools reserved for 18 year olds with at least 7 weeks of training.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's gonna get wild when the military is fighting DHS and citizens have to pick a side or create a new faction.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is important.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And what if Trump tried to give direct orders to troops whether the joint chiefs like it or not?

6 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 36

We will not heed him.

6 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

I would hope not.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I understand your concern, but that’s not really how the military works. First, most commanders have the same level of integrity that...

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

...the joint chiefs do, since most officers are cut from the same cloth, but that’s also not how orders are passed down. Formal written...

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

...orders are complicated things, and the president can’t just issue a broad declaration to the military and expect the lower level...

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

...commanders to subvert the authority of their superiors. Federal LE agencies is a totally different matter however.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Exactly.

They are the minority. Fret not brother, the vast majority of LEOs, vets, and active duty would die before allowing it.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Yes, a coup. That's just what the USA needs. Actually.... would it be worse? Let me know how it goes.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

good way to really drain the swamp after it failed which it would. Imagine all those co conspirators in congress who'd share in his fate

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A true coup is highly unlikely. If he refuses to leave when his term is up and the military doesn't back him, the secret service boots him.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

And if they don't?

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

We do.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

HAHA.... thats funny

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

If they don't, that's a coup.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Not exactly, but it's certainly illegal. But then it's only illegal if he's eventually kicked out.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope, Coups can only be done with the help of the CIA. Since this is domestic, the CIA can't do much but sell crack to inner city youths

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

Haha I think you dropped this good sir —> “/s” But for reals fuck all those coups the CIA instigated in Latin America.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Aye, you're right. Sorry, did forget the "/s"

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Those in Africa and Asia were ok?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I can’t fit all the countries the US has fucked in 140 characters or less :(

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ummm... i thought so too until people started getting abducted off the streets

6 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 11

The way I heard it was that the police unions asked Trump for help so he sent Feds who started kidnapping and illegally detaining citizens.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

I dont think that matters, what matters is its happening

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The military, for all apperences, seem to be of the opinion that Trump can go fuck himself.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

The police unions do NOT have that authority.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No they dont. But asking the president who does or believes he does have the authority to do it and no one is about to stop him before he

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

does it at least once amounts to the same thing as doing it and not suffering any consequences for it.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A few hundred ICE agents does not make an occupying force for a country of 300 million

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Really? Cause a month ago that was an occupying force in seattle lol

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That isnt the military in Portland

6 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

But the military isn’t stopping them

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 19

Yet

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

? This makes zero sense. that isn't the militaries job. In fact. It's against the constitution for them to do that.

6 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

As much as I love the idea of the Army unilaterally stepping in to tell DHS to collectively fuck off, it would not be good for them to do so

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I don't think you have a firm understanding of when the military may be utilized

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

We're to be utilized in a manner wholly inconsistent with US law specifically so the Red or Blue team gets their way. Constitution be damned

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Wait....who was it then?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's the suede denim secret police.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a task force pulled from different federal agencies. Reportedly mainly DHS. Customs. ICE. Etc (again. Not defending it)

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Basically? Gestapo.secret police. Any of a dozen other names. Take your pick.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Remember when they said Obama was gonna do this... And also have death panels.

6 years ago | Likes 1529 Dislikes 13

That's because Obama literally helped set the foundation for this shit. Militarization of police increased under Obama.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The fact is, Trump wouldn't be so primed for this sort of thing without Obama and Bush Jr.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

6 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

Trunp uses a lot of Goebbels' playbook, up to the attack on schools.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You mean like the death panels running triage in Arizona, FL, and TX because of too many Covid cases?

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

I mean, that's what triage _is_

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes and during obamacare arguments the Republicans called them "death panels".

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I agree, and my clarification wasn't a very good one: this point should have been brought up more vocally then. Republican doublespeak.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Yeah, but at least Obama himself didn't suggest he might do it. Trump legit refused to say he won't when prompted. He said "we'll see".

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

And someone’s takin the bait

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Everything they claim to fear a democrat doing is something they end up trying to do.

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Conservatives love accusing others of doing what they themselves wish they could do.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And Bush would do this and Clinton would do this...

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

its almost like projection is a central plank of conservative dogma

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

Yeah. The GOP is very good at accusing others of the things they plan on doing.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 5

Right back at you. Alinsky 101. Although I am a Libertarian staring at the dumbz and wondering. When will u all remove head from ass?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Can you really cite any examples of that happening in the progressive mainstream? I mean, that might be hard since progressive people (1)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

tend not to get elected as often in the US, but... As for libertarianism, I tend to find libertarians aren't all that much better than (2)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the GOP in many circumstances. This isn't always true - I have a great deal of respect for libertarians whose fear of the state comes (3)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Imgur has literally become the alex jones of the Left. (sigh)

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh shit, they're totally going to do this. It's *always* projection.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I miss that guy and his outlandish attire

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Any time a republican accuses a democrat of something, it's always something the republican is either guilty of, willing to do or planning.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And take all da guns!!! He comin' I tell you...any day now... he be here soon... really... like soon....

6 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 4

To be fair. A few Dem house and senate members have said they support far reaching firearm bans. I believe it would be political suicide for

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A democrat president to run on that platform though.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Now it's "Biden is gonna take the guns. All of em" so silly. Did they ever get the guns back Obama took?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

what? who said that? when? i wanna read some humor today

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Remember how it didn't happen even when they convinced themselves it would?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah but...

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And yet his pants shittingly incompetent administration has allowed more preventable deaths than any in recent memory.

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 21

Yeah, clarification is needed here

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Who? Obama? Wut?

6 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

I really enjoy that they skipped death panels and just went straight to directly infecting people with a deadly pathogen. Republicans really

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or just move old covid patients back to the nursing homes to kill everyone there... like New York ...? Democrat death panel

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Saved a lot of time and money that way. Democrats are so wasteful /s

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The republican party loves to project.

6 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 6

DEATH PANEL TIME

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's just another reason that this is so terrifying.

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 3

I'll say...

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If they didn't have doublestandards, they'd have no standards at all.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Not from the US...what's a death panel?

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

It's when a lot of executives decide who gets health care and who doesn't.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In reality. The US health insurance industry.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Supposedly universal healthcare would be so bad there would be panels who decided if you lived or died. Like with the rona but for every day

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ah yes, like the lawless wastes of Canada and the UK, where judges in powdered wigs give a thumbs down to sentence people to the Doom Pit.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Give me a gassed up chain saw and I'll take the Doom Pit.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Death panel" is a political term that originated during the 2009 debate about federal health care legislation to cover the uninsured in /1

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

the United States. Sarah Palin, former Republican Governor of Alaska, coined the term when she charged that proposed legislation would /2

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

create a "death panel" of bureaucrats who would decide whether Americans—such as her elderly parents, or children with Down syndrome /3

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

were "worthy of medical care". Palin's claim has been referred to as the "death panel myth", as nothing in any proposed legislation would /4

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

It's not something the US came up with but the closest thing to it in reality is the death penalty as punishment.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In fiction, it's a panel of Drs deciding to pull the plug on grandma because she is too expensive to keep alive.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The affordable cares act was going to create death panels of people that decided if someone who was sick would get treatment or not.

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Which was not the case.

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

And is already the case with private insurance

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yeah but it would be government people making the decisions which is communist.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So like insurance companies do

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Yes.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes but that's OK because it's pro business, not pro government.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Member when Obama was gonna invade Texas and the governor put the state national guard on standby?

6 years ago | Likes 334 Dislikes 2

Sounds good, why didn't he do that? Lol

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

Invade Texas???? For Oil, I assume...??? Cause I don’t know why someone would invade TX for armadillo roadkill. You can get it in Arkansas.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Wait what? How did I miss this?

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Because you weren't paying attention to the idiotic conspiracy theories the right kept propagating about Obama to galvanize their voters.

6 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 0

You should take it as a point of pride, honestly.

6 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

I like intelligent and funny people. +1

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Jesus fucking christ. Kinda wish ORs Gov would do that for Portland.

6 years ago | Likes 141 Dislikes 1

Good idea, but basically once the NG is mobilized they fall under Federal authority thus working for Trump.

6 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 3

Yeah didn't the Bush administration make it so that they answer directly to the president of he calls on them?

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

One would think all citizens, especially 2A supporters, be against the Fed govt having control of the state's militia.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Actually, if the nat guard goes on state active duty, they're under state authority. They only fall under federal if in joint status with

6 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

Thanks for clarifying.

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Other states, or if doing federal active duty. Source: been in for 13 years and done state active duty multiple times.
