Have you tried giving them extra one-on-one study time?

...how the tables have turned.

Note: As a teacher, I’m still providing distance learning via internet. These parents who have kicked us down and spit on us (verbally) during meetings are now seeing the light. We don’t just teach YOUR kids... but usually classes with 15-20 other kids.

Anyways - good luck out there.

If I could I would pay teachers like athletes get paid.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Teachers aren't underpaid, they're overworked. We need to hire more and reduce class sizes by 25%...and by 50% in poor neighborhoods.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

We have more than 25 kids in a class...

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

"Goodluck out there" op says, stifling a cackle at the parents misfortune of having to deal with their own crappy kids. Karma,eh?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Teachers and schools should not be expected to raise your kids. Their hand are already full trying to educate them enough to survive

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

My oldest is in kindergarten and her teacher/school are having to come up with online lesson plans so She can still learn from home.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Never been a better time to not have kids.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I’m getting my teaching credential now and the wisdom I received for meeting parents: “they have the maturity and education of 8th graders”

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As someone who didn't have the patience and ability to NOT tell off parents and was denied a teaching certificate.... I am smiling

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As an occasional substitute, Thank you! Bless you! And you don't get paid enough to deal with some of these kids.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My kids have been great. Youngest (11) did the entire weeks worth of work today so she can play roblox uninterrupted

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

15 - 20 students? You must not be from America, I'm guessing. Also, Hello from America!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My husband and I have taught our kids not to be dicks, and they are really cool kids. The teachers love them ?

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

same here, whenever mine fucked up she had to write an apology letter to her teacher stating what she did wrong, why, and how she was going

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

to fix it. her teacher loved it and after the first few letters we never had any issues again =D she's an easy kid to deal with

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I teach 23 kids all below grade level as best as i can. Not sure what things will be like when we're finally allowed back in school

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Got real vengeful real quick...

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

America: Complain about all the "stupid people," then shit on and underpay the people that want to fix that.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

As a teacher I've had parents tell me they don't listen at home or do they're work and ask what I am going to do to fix it ? most parents

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Are nice though.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Maybe parents should start being parents rather than trying to be their kid's friend. Crazy concept, I know.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Thank you for what you do! You are appreciated!

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I have the opposite problem. Kid is an angel at school and a half-demon at home.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A big thanks to all the teachers out there.

6 years ago | Likes 160 Dislikes 2

Thanks. Normally just a bunch of teacher bashing on this site. Everyone I work with has been going crazy trying to help as much as possible.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks ?

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

@OP, a big thank you! I did teaching for a few years. I could not do it. If I stayed, I would have choked a parent out. I don’t do jail well

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Lol, 15-20?? Try 30++

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I remember in 2nd grade when it came time for Open House she decorated the back bulletin board to say “Welcome Parents From All 44 of Us!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was going to say, I’d love to have such a small class as 15-20! Where I teach they can’t run a class unless there’s like 25 kids minimum

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I love in a smaller district. 300-400 per grade level split between 3 sci teachers and 7 periods. Other subjects only have 2 teachers for...

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

...each subject—so yes, those teachers have 30+ students.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only 15-20 other kids?! Well done you! Most class sizes are 30+

6 years ago | Likes 487 Dislikes 7

That's roughly 30-50 feral hogs right there.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've got classes of 37. Our poor gym teacher has 50+ kids.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And this is the we need legislation to prevent this, with more funding to schools

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Didn't realize this was a competition but i know some people who teach in morocco and it's hell when middle schoolers beat their teachers

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

O.o "beat their teachers"? As in violence? **Shock**

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah exactly that, he sent me a video of a kid fighting with his old teacher while the others are helping him pin that teacher down.Gruesome

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Holy shit... That should be police levels if wrong...

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

In China classes can be closed to 100 students. Or so my wife says (she's Chinese)

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

How the hell do you keep all the students grades up? Some must skip with class sizes that big.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Parents give you hell if you don't study. Normal students grades are over 90/100

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

You mean.... Parents doing their job? Holy shit... How can the world stand it?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Science classes tend to be smaller... because of lab restrictions. My campus does have three sci teachers for 1 grade level...

6 years ago | Likes 99 Dislikes 1

Dude. My smallest science class is 27. The others are much larger.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wish I had this! 7th grade science teachers at my school have 33-35 kids in every class.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

...helps to thin out classes a bit. Other subjects only have two teachers for the same amount of students.

6 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

Wait, what? When I taught chemistry, I had classes of 30-35, and lab space for about 24. Good times.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Jeez! There are laws (in TX) that say 24 is the limit in a lab for safety reasons.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

you're in a system that doesnt just have homeroom and thats it? is it public?

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Public, junior high, 300-400 students, multiple (7) periods

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sounds like middle or high school, grades 7+ depending on region. Elementary is still just homeroom and music/gym where my dad teaches.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I’m a general science and biology teacher. All of my classes are 30+.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As a Floridian I have 32 in some of my chemistry classes.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That’s insane. I hope you have a big lab. I can’t imagine students conducting a lab properly with that many in a room.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where are you working as a teacher? Here in Germany you don't often see classes with more than 22 Pupils, and even that was stress for me...

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The US.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Texas

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But my child is a precious perfect angel... if anything is wrong it's YOUR fault, not his. /s

6 years ago | Likes 149 Dislikes 3

Yep, I knew too many parents who thought this. I took the opposite tack - I assumed my kid was guilty until he could prove otherwise

6 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

Kids are big liars so you will probably be right most of the time, still I would take putting rational judgement over assuming guilty.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Which often would yield the same result.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had one kid dig into another kid's backpack to grab a toy. I confronted him and he screamed and cried that he didn't steal it.

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

This is the tactic I use with my own two children.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Lots of parents r unwilling to look critically at their own kids. They spoil them, don’t have boundaries & won’t admit they’re crap parents

6 years ago | Likes 933 Dislikes 4

yes they r

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep. Fuck having kids for me. My sis has 3. The bloodline continues and I get to be a kickass uncle.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Overcompensating for Uber strict parents. Bubble children syndrome. No child left behind.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When I was a cop... Parents would call us when their kids wouldn't go to school in the morning.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Amen to that, the youngest students I have are by far the worst in the manners department. Spoilt brats with no respect even for each other.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Reason number two I don't want children: I'm afraid to me a crappy mother

6 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

It's a rational fear.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

but most people arn't so self-reflective. I'm the same. my parents were shit so I don't want more of the same.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lol, my mom was a teacher, so I never got away with that shit. I learned early on blaming my teacher was a losing strategy.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Art teacher here. THIS.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

When I see my son being a dick my first thought is "damn, wonder where he got that from. Right. Me." Gotta change your behavior to teach em

6 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 0

I see so much behavior I don’t like about myself in my son. It’s made me be better.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This. I have really internalized that my kids negative behaviors are my fault. Unfortunately he's two, so troubleshooting is very difficult.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Still talk to him like a little dude. We did that with our son and it worked wonders. All kids want is to be acknowledged and given the time

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Of day. They respond very well to being treated like legitimate people. Not just as a kid.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're probably doing a great job. Parenting is tough sometimes

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks. We're figuring it out a little bit at a time. He's smart and stubborn and that's just a fun combination.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Three is worse. Especially with boys. Holy shit its a ride

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Remember, they watch everything you do, it's how they learn. If you got angry when something goes wrong they will too.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

But if you do the right thing they will pick that up instead

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I know you mean well, but unasked for advice comes off as condescending. Still, I agree with what you're saying, having already discovered

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

My brother was an only child for 8 years and he is a complete psycho because of the exact reason you say. I didn't get shit though.

6 years ago | Likes 132 Dislikes 0

an only child. Take care these days! 2/2

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Haven't spoken to him in 3 years and I barely talk to my mum because she can't admit her mistakes and apologise (for recent and past things)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did not expect that, i am 13 years older than my only sister, her coming along knocked all the onlychildness out of me and she is more 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

“Don’t tell me how to raise my kids” is BS. They don’t come with a manual and you need to have empathy, b humble and ready to change.

6 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 0

No kidding... I went in to raising my 2 daughters totally clueless. I think the only reason I'm a decent father today is because I listened.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Word

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He would hurt girls but she always asked what they did to him. No consequence, total belief. I thought he'd be a murderer, no a molester.
