MRW Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says anything about coronavirus

DeSantis says that everything is fine while hospital are stopping all but essential emergency surgeries.

“We’re not shutting down,’' DeSantis said at an event in Miami. “We’re gonna have schools open. We’re protecting every Floridian’s job in this state.”

When a reporter asked about the hospitals, he said, “I think it’s important to point out because obviously media does hysteria, you try to fear monger, you try to do this stuff. And when they’ll talk about hospitalizations, our hospitals are open for business.”

On Friday, AdventHealth shifted to a “code black” canceling non-emergency procedures after seeing a record 1,600 patients, and epidemiologist Vincent Hsu said its Central Florida division hasn’t yet reached its peak in terms of patients.

Hospitals in Jacksonville, Miami, Tampa and Tallahassee are also reporting a surge in COVID-19 hospitalizations, and DeSantis has been urged by local leaders and hospital officials to do more, including the president of the Duval County Medical Society Foundation, who called on DeSantis to issue a state of emergency.
