You can also see this technique used in the betty boop cartoon "the old man of the mountain". Good stuff.

It was a technique called 'Rotoscope.' 'Betty Boop Snow White' (1933). A lot of the ghost Koko the clown dancing is a rotoscope of Cab Calloway.
