Acoustic Field Strength Visualizer

This is a naive simulation of the acoustic pressure within a volume above an Acoustic Haptics Array. By firing synchronized pulses of ultrasonic radiation from a grid of 256 transducers, focused nodes of haptic ultrasound can be created in free-space, and felt by human touch.

In Unity, I use Custom Render Textures to compute the acoustic pressure at each point in space, and then I raymarch through that texture to generate the visualization seen here.

The principal is similar to this Shadertoy:

Very interesting... I need to come back here later.

You could make a blind game!

Wicked, would it be felt as a constant pressure or as a buzz?

It's felt as a constant pressure (since it's vibrating at 40KHz!), but they usually add a 100hz buzz to make it feel stronger.

Interesting, it must take some serious wattage to generate spl that you can feel.
