I don't think so. I'd be pissed if someone hit on the person I was dating, too. Engaging would be a casual exchange, that wasn't the case.
You shouldn't worry so much about other people hitting on them. Worry if they reciprocate.
I don't think it's a matter of being worried, it's just rude and annoying. But I agree that if they reciprocate, it's time to move along.
