This has been an absolute shitshow for anyone working in the tech industry. Many of us are working 10 - 14 hour days to maintain the infrastructure to allow the influx of VPN users, webmail, and network tunnels to work from home. I personally work in the Health Care industry and have been available 24/7 for the past few days.

If you work in an office setting that has the capability to stay home I ask you please be patient with the IT staff. We understand your frustration when technology is not function correctly and we will do our best to assist!

Please stay safe.

IT here, our dept has been doing well with remote access, main issue is staff who need hand-holding, even with remote assistance resources.

I work in busy convenience center off a mjaor US interstate. There is ALOT of worry and some panic. Still giving out smiles and kindness.

IT help desk here. Just using cleaners on the equipment, wondering if we're closing soon or not

Work at a public university and everyone wants to take their office equipment home but can't move the standing desks without assistance.

This! ITs are almost always underappreciated but guess what, they can end all your productivity in seconds. Appreciate them ?

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

No, I'm not an IT

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is this where I go to reset my password?

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Our IT company (external) is overloaded so guess who’s now the person responsible for setting everything up? This gal.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Bless you guys. My IT group is awesome and so so tired.

IT at a college. Suddenly 5000+ faculty and staff need VPN access. Previous record: 32 connections. Max the system can handle at once: 300.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I hear you brother, this has been nuts for us in IT

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Government IT here. IT support juxtaposed with local politics. Hell holds no terror for me.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Fuck yes. This week's been quite a year so far.

6 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 0

My husband's had to re-arrange his schedule to accommodate the massive influx of 'support requests' from his whole company going remote 1/

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

and most of it is "My macbook is slow... and I don't want to follow the troubleshooting steps can I expense a chromebook??" 2/2

I just started my first IT job on Monday.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's been a fun challenge honestly, good luck to all IT staff out there!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

All we had to do was add more VPN licenses. Nothing else required. Good luck to you

6 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 3

They get pounded out from to much use? Wow they are like the real thing

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Ah, so that's why my trucks at FedEx have been so heavy.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We went from 500 users normally to 5000. I feel you dawg.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I just started a new job in IT a couple weeks ago, I'm the whole department servicing 30 locations. The crazy is getting to me.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

IT for a University here. Switched to ALL online classes and remote support. Spring break now, but next week gonna be interesting.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah boi. “Just move all teaching and assessment online”... ehh, sure, we’ll get right on that

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup, next week I am training people how to use software that I've never used until this week. I'm usually just a microphone/projector guy!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"I NEED VPN ACCESS NOW!" You don't and you don't know what that is.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I am personally helping you by not doing any work on my work from home days, who's the real hero here?

6 years ago | Likes 557 Dislikes 2

You fucking are. Hero.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I also have done precisely jack shit over the last few days. You're welcome.

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Honestly this is the best thing to do. The less people using the network, the less people breaking it

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My belt holds my pants up, but the belt loops hold my belt up. Who is the real hero? - Mitch Hedberg

6 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 1

My belt would stay up without my pants though

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

But it wouldn't hold anything up. Is it really still a hero then?

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Right but I also wouldnt need it without the pants? Point being the pants only need the belt, the belt doesnt need the pants.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank God there are others of us, damn stressful is what it is. My username may be misleading but I'm IT at a University rn and wooooo boi

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Same. Solidarity!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We are part of the machine and corporate thinks of us as nothing!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"hello, yeah, mm i lost my password, can you email it to me" repeated x times per hour.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or I'm not an admin can you give me the it admin credentials?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same... and all our VPNs stopped working this morning.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yikes

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*smiles in software developer*

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We've been having a few difficulties with the VPN but they were fixed by Monday afternoon. Sometimes our video conference software is hard

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

to log into for our 10 am standups.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh god, agile... I get exhausted just thinking about early morning meetings.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

If it's done right (and that's a huge if), it works REALLY well. Way fucking better than "work on this for four months, find out that it is

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

all wrong and now you have to redo it - oh, and now you're getting a Needs Improvement on your annual review because you can't meet deadline

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As one of those IT workers, we're happy to FINALLY prove that you can run the business remotely and I don't have to be there to make it work

6 years ago | Likes 271 Dislikes 0

Upper management thinks the same thing that's why they are out sourcing your position.

6 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 3

We used to get 3 remote days a month. After this, I expect 3 a week.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have 2-3/week in my contract, but usually visit the office once a month to have a coffee wit the others. Living the life.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nah, some things don't start working correctly until you touch it.

6 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 3

I find that those are usually ID10T error related issues.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Heyyyyyyyy

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's true, there are a lot of things you can't turn off and on again remotely.

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

You refer to the tech sura

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Get ready to have your job outsourced.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

lol, nope. Stuff I work on has to stay stateside.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For now

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sure, whatever you want, guy

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I still have to come in. Power might go out, internet might go down, Devs comp might lose remote ability. I can poop without an audience tho

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

99.5% of my job is done remotely ... I just happen to do it from my office most of the time.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

IT in the medical field. Fucking kill me please.

6 years ago | Likes 128 Dislikes 0

Corona's on the way.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Me too I.T. in the medical field. I feel your pain

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You got this. We’ve got this. I’m in IT for B2B so you’ve got our way worse than me but we need you, bro.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a nurse, thank you. We would absolutely fall apart without you.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm halvsies on medical and university at the same time so I feel ya. Me too please

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Woohoo switched away a year ago

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This'll be my last job in medical. Having out first kid in June, once he's here I'm going to start hunting. I hate it so much.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hospital based IT here. Yes, it is crazy right now. But I’m getting no contact high fives in the halls from nurses, doctors, and admins >

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

>a surgeon told me yesterday, “you keep saving us and we’ll keep saving them.” Feels good to be appreciated in a crisis!

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Is medical staff able to work remotely?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Medical staff isn't limited to doctors and nurses. There are a lot of different positions in the field, and a ton that can WFH.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i feel your pain! I am just so tired...

6 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

You got this. Thank you for the shoutout, and thanks for everything you do whatever that is!

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My friend was given a talking to because she managed to sleep for 3 uninterrupted hours by her boss, who messages her almost every hour-

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

-to make sure she is available 24/7. She said after this thing is over with she is going to a different company.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yeah I'd be out too. That's some B.S.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Network Engineer here for a group of 7 hospitals/38 clinics and ~8,000 users. Guess how many network people we have? That's right. Just me.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Pretty much run ragged. I hate it.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Although I am sure you are a super hero daily, that’s too much, honey. I’m not IT but know quite a few so I have some insight. 1/

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You really gotta take care of you.
