Deck the halls

Dec 10, 2022 9:16 PM

Since leaving the military, I have progressively become more and more uncomfortable in large social settings. I prefer small, intimate gatherings. I went to this because my wife and I recently started working for the same company and she really wanted to go. We went, she says she had fun. I hope she did.

Etiquette says 1 hour of mingling and then you leave. You did well

Two hours is a long time

Absolutely NOT a failure. I’m proud of you, for whatever that’s worth.

Crowds are tough, man.. don’t sweat it

Before I joined the Army I went to a party, saw someone I knew right inside the door, shook his hand, said "Great to see you!" and went home

happy.

2 hours is pretty good!

Congratulate yourself on making it two hours... don't despair that you got uncomfortable then. Keep working it.

Seek help, do it.

Thats an hour and 45 minutes longer than I can handle crowds. Way to go! Proud of ya, @OP!

The bottom should also be red. Lasting two hours in a sitution that gives you severe anxiety is not a failure.

100% agree.

Yup. OP is definitely rad. Well done!

That's a whole two hours! Great job

I don’t have social anxiety and I doubt I’d last longer than two hours at a party. (Nor would my wife.) so I’d say you crushed it!

Two hours is my limit just because

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Im currently in the car, dreading that very thing.

Not bad. Two hours is reasonable. I might be able to do four, if I can find a room with a smaller group.

two hours is way more than I could do. Good on you. you did it!

As an introvert with an extrovert husband - I’m sure she understands, 2 hours is not bad for a party, it was good for both of you ?

2 hours well done! Don't undermine your small wins. You're not alone hating large gatherings

You lasted 2 whole hours brother. Give yourself a Pat on the back. Good job!

Forced myself to go to Thanksgiving and got Covid, so I'm done with family gatherings. They won't miss me anyway.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There hasn't been many occasions I couldn't find a small group of like minded people hiding in the corner.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You still took an important step, and 2 hours is well done.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is this common? I've been out for 1.5 yrs and could only handle 1 hr in walmart today.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Get a hearing check, seriously

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can honestly say this: do the therapy. I've been out a while and were it not for therapy I am certain I would be a hermit.

Also get a hearing check

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Often

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe get some therapy about that

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’d call this a win my friend, great job!

Well, I hope your wife was pleased with the evening. Doing it for someone you love is good discipline.

When I started at a big company I thought I had this social obligation to join company parties, after a couple of years I learned to say no

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Lol yeah. I work for the fed gov. I've turned down all work parties except my own going away party. Couldn't get outta that one...

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Woulda been rad if you did though

Gradual exposure therapy is a thing. I assume you’re talking to a professional, ask them for info.
