Horror game where you have to scan in order to see that I created in Unity in 8 months. Very excited to be sharing it with you in a couple of weeks!

Very excited to release this! I have been working on it these last past 8 months after leaving my full-time job (and working on it full-time) so I am excited! It's going to be my first level-based game!

This is a horror game I am creating in Unity and In this game you have to scan your environment to see, but you are not alone and the enemies can hear you from your microphone. Inspired by an amazing game called Scanner Sombre, but more focused on the horror with inventory management, turret scanners, upgrades, microphone input, traveling between normal/lidar etc

If you wish to wishlist it on steam, it would help a lot: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2276850/The_Voidness__Lidar_Horror_Survival_Game

Thank you!!!

Looks really good. The art style creates such a unique yet scary atmosphere. I dont do well with horror but can't wait to watch some streams

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Notice how there are 356k views and only 200 up votes. Instead of paying for likes pay for add space like everyone else.

3 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 7

It's the guy spamming his ad again. Look at his post history. Can't stand this shit.

3 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 12

I think I commented about this on a past post of this game. But it's awfully alike an existing free game. Might want to look into that first

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's called "Lidar.exe" by a developer who calls themselves as "KenForest."

Hey look it's the ripoff of Scanner Sombre again! https://store.steampowered.com/app/475190/Scanner_Sombre/

3 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 12

I men, they literally said they were inspired by that game...

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 23

I was inspired by tetris, here is my game Not Tetris.

3 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 5

Well by that logic, gotta call out every single game of any given genre given their core mechanics are the same among them...

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 13

How else are people supposed to get more of the same game that they really liked?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Find good Youtuber reviewers you like, or Steam curators, or "similar games" lists, or half a dozen other modern tools that aren't spam

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Would this game not show up as a "similar game" or vice versa for the other lidar game?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yes...that's how you could find it without OP spamming imgur with ads. Understand now?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

like i said there's been a solid month between this post and his previous posts

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

is this the "Ray Tracing" I've been hearing so much about? /s

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

No idea why these blatant advertisements get to the front page every time.

3 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 16

Calm down my dude, it's not like it's EA or Bioware. Support indie gaming.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 11

Bots. Last time he had a ton of day 1 accounts with single-word praise, too. "nice" "cool" etc. They were deleted a few hours later.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

This might answer that conundrum of yours: /gallery/Vujvw2M/comment/2315054193

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

356k views and 220 upvotes. They did not get to the front page legitimately.

3 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

Cross posted to reddit, IIRC. Thats why the high view count but low upvotes.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

It's more likely they paid for a service to get those views. There isn't usually a lot of engagement on these ads until it hits fp.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

No idea why some of you are so hell bent on hating indie developers posting their progress updates.

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 13

This. Like if it's a big company I get it. But some dude making a small project is the same thing as an artist that makes cool knives

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 9

If the knife seller ripped off the designs from another artist.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

Who ripped off what now? You think Scanner Sombre created 3d laser scanning technology?

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

B/c all he does is post it. It's not a legit Imgur user sharing his passion project, it's a company that made a social media account.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Stop being so dramatic; using Imgur as just another advertising channel is the problem, irrespective of the product.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i like it

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 16

Nice of you to join imgur just to endorse this ad.

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I see OP is STILL using bots for this shit.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Why wouldn't they? It works effectively as they got exposure for their crummy clone game

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Didn't Markiplier play this?

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 8

He played one called Lidar.exe I believe.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Neat concept!

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 17

I want to recreate this in the real world with UV lasers and 'invisible' (clear) fluorescent paints.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 8

Check this out! it's the Lidar tech in real life: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMnwIvRV_EY&ab_channel=FJDynamics

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

Friend of mine was the laser tech at Universal that maintained the Ghostbusters attraction, that used UV lasers and the fluorescent paints.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Just imagine what your game, or the visual mapping in that video, in the real world around you. Be in a pitch black room, scan, and tada!

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

You had me at psychological horror. I'll buy and play ALL of them.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 14

Thank you so much! Glad to see others enjoy Psychological horrors :)

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 11

It's free advertising!

3 years ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 15

To be fair, the account is nearly a year old, and they have posted things other than their game. Maybe it's a real person, maybe it is not.

3 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 22

Half their posts are ad spam. Other half are subtle ad spam. All related to their crummy ripoff game.

3 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 12

Why are you cruel?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yeah, just report this BS. If we don't stay vigilant, ads like this will be every other post again.

3 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 23

Sorry it made you upset! Wish I had that 150K marketing budget too, but I'm just 1 dev creating games and mostly just share my progress :(

3 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 15

The trick is to do the social dance of posting a cool clip but not including a link to buy it. Wait for somebody to ask then reply to that.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 12

It's part of the Imgur social contract, just like including finished products first, or a cat tax at the end.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 7

He did and does lmao

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Posting without linking source is NEVER preferred. If you don't like it don't click it, but don't request less information, man.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

ahh so spam is ok then

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

@SpockIsMyHomeboy what's the rule on this? Didnt Imgur change the rules to only nix ads for dubious products or from bots? This would be OK?

3 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

Yea, this is totally fine allowed as we allow self-promotion. Indie developers work hard as well as artists & creators of all kinds.

3 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 11

That's okay for just accounts that only advertise a game too?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

(Fwiw this guy also brings in bots to upvote & comment. Last time he had multiple same-day new accounts posting single-word praise that were

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hi! Thank you so so much to understand the hard work indie devs (and other artists) do and go through! Really, thank you. I appreciate it!

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 10

Limited amount of spray, and the monsters can't chase you on sprayed area? But the spray wears off after a while? Looks interesting

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

So… LiDAR, again

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My first comment ever, but this is a rip off of Scanner Somber, you Scan Scammer!

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

no, but yes? no. yes. i can't decid eif i love it or hate it. good job OP. good luck with game development 👍

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 11

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. Comments like these really motivate you to keep moving forward! Thank you.. really :)

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

But what if the enemies find what they hear through my microphone unsettling ?

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 10

In that case .. YOU will be the enemy then .. and the game will change genre from horror to a platform adventure.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Noice.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cool - but reading the title gave me a stroke

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Haha sorry about that! English is not my first language so my typing sometimes ain't the best :( .. but thank you!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You should make some horror segments to mess with the player where all those dots move around like the geometry is shifting

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

And also make an enemy suck up the paint the player placed to really increase tension

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

before this again turns into "you ripped off scanner sombre" dear imgurian , go to google , click images and type "3d laser scanning"

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 11

After that, google "3d laser scanning horror game in a cave"

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

https://kenforesidar-exe">https://kenfor">t.itch.">idar-exe">https://kenforest.itch.io/lidar-exe https://shadylev.itch.io/lost-lab https://buburito.itch.io/infrared theres like at least 12 games

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

and just on itchio , few on steam and other platforms , few mods for games too(like garrys mod)

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

horror , and cave , with 3d laser scaning not even narrowed id down , but indeed not super many games.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Is it VR capable?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Not yet, but planned if hopefully all goes well! :)

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 7

Apparently there are some that don't like VR for some reason, I like the exercise, put weights on your arms and play SuperHot for example.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

"Inspired by" Scanner Sombre seems like you might be understating things, everything in your marketing pitch is lifted directly from there.

3 years ago | Likes 151 Dislikes 17

Scanner Sombre was way too short, I'm fuckin pumped for more content in the "lidar horror" genre

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

And people say metal gets too specific in it's "genres".

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I didn't think SS was primarily horror, more exploration. Also no inventory or other creatures.

3 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 9

Tell me you didn't play SS without telling me.

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Well this as a horror is basically straight from a scene in one of the paranormal activity movies

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

And scanner sombre is just a game version of what a real LiDAR mapping is, everything’s inspired from something

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 5

i mean yeah , and nothing wrong with it , i still remember hate when people said terraria ripedoff minecraft , the cringe.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

or even all way back when "everything was hurr durr doom clone" if games not took inspirations , bigger or smaller games would be boring.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Nothing is original. We've been recycling ideas for thousands of years.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

https://youtu.be/Zs3xXlXSOKk

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The sooner people realize it, the sooner we'd stop having meltdowns of ego

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

your like "you ripped off GTA because your game has cars" scanner sombre entire look , is just how 3d scanning works

3 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 28

Hmm. I feel like this is a second account for this person who is posting without paying for an ad.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's definitely a complex and fine line, rip-off vs homage vs inspiration. I think a key factor is what's in the marketing.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The scanner mechanic is first and heaviest in the marketing info, with a bit of mention for the mic features and very little of the rest.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Kinda seems more like "You ripped off GTA because you just made GTA with a different name"

3 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 10

"1 gameplay element" being everything now , scaner sombre was not even horror game or had monsters , was exploration game more then anything

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 9

The entire gameplay setting and concept. The main thing that made the game stand out. Even down to how that game did it.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

there are like 20 similar games around who use lidar , 10 on just itch.io , scanner sombre was not first game who used scanning ether >

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

and i dont get why imgur harasses dev every time i seen him post for it , scaner sombre is literally copy paste of 3d scaner technology

3 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 17

they not invented the looks of it , i dare you to go into google images and type "3d laser scanning"

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 13

You really dont even know what your own point is do you?

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Probably because he posts it enough that people recognize it and get frustrated?

3 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 3

He posted about it a few times in February about 5 weeks ago and hasn't posted about it again until now

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

trying to reason with imgurians is like talking to republicans. , facts just go in 1 ear , and go out of other.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

or maybe they are "everything ripped off doom" crowd

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 11

There's a huge difference between "all fps are Doom lol" and the almost 1:1 of this game to Scanner Sombre. You're just being obtuse

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I dont play video games and my first thought was “this looks exactly like a game ive already seen” which is entirely a problem.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Because he's not a legit user, he's a company that made an Imgur account and only advertises a game

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

he is more legit then bots , who is 50-80% of imgur posts by now , almost all frontpage is bot content reposts or stolen content by bots.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

but it is somewhat fair point , id prefer imgur to not have advertising , or bots. but id rather have games adds here , then bot reposts.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He uses bots.
