I hiked to the "Top of Texas" for my 40th birthday recently. Guadalupe Peak in Guadalupe Mountains National Park, elevation 8,751 ft.
My goal was to see the sunrise from the peak. But thanks to my garbage body and despite starting at 3am in the dark, we didn't quite make it in time. Still a beautiful sight.
I'm very proud of myself for achieving this goal. It was a very tough hike for me.

El Capitan is the prominent peak on the left. Guadalupe Peak is just to the right of that same rock formation.

I visited many years ago, the wind was gusting over 100mph at the top. Park ranger laughed when I said I was going up, but I made it.

I've heard the winds can get intense up there. They were about 35mph and gusty and cold. It was enough to keep our stay at the top brief.

It was an amazing view, I visited the B24 crash the second day. Well off the trail and a bit hard to get to.
