In Oct 2023 Israel asked China to criminalize anti-Israel content online - not pass a law criminalizing the sentiment in general - due to a rise in anti-Israel posts on Chinese social media sites such as Weibo and Douyin directly after the outbreak of the Gaza war. Chinese authorities do crack down on people criticizing the "wrong" things on these sites, so their refusal does imply a semi official stance. TL;DR China is still asshoe, but with an Israel axe to grind.
