If MediaLab AI, Inc. (the owners of Imgur) actually did account verifications and removed all the slick bot posts, Id bet more than 60% of all of Imgur's traffic would disappear and most of the hate and political posts would be gone with them. Let's force them to do an audit !! STOP THE BOT POSTS.
I'm just glad it's a real person. I hate the bots sometimes.
I'm not saying anything bad about our robot overlords, but I spent 2 years dating a girl online, only to discover she was an AI construct. I guess i should have seen the signs... but who doesn't love a romantic scroll through the social media? Or ordering things we don't need? Or breathing with our human lungs? They are indistinguishable!
Honest question: Why do they need real physical phones to do this? I mean, could they not use virtual machines / emulators of some kind? Sorry if I am the dumb.
I know whenever *I* text a wrong number that i become overly friendly and try to start a relationship with a random stranger. I'm polite enough to wait until the third day to start telling them my sob stories and asking for money, though. /s
Just remember that a large portion of people working in scam centres are actually victims of human trafficking and are being forced to do scams and will be tortured if they don't bring in at least $1000 USD a week.
Virtual devices are an endless arms race of detection/counter-detection. Can't get banned for using a virtual device if you use a wall of cheap phones.
Websites can detect virtual mobile devices / emulators. YouTube et al track everything from CPU architecture over system build fingerprints, carrier info, and physical sensor data (gyroscopes, accelerometers etc.) to user input data like swipe speed and touch duration. They can even tell if it's a real mobile device but controlled by an auto-clicker app rather than an actual person. So you either need a human worker or a robot arm that drags a frankfurter across the screen. And humans are cheaper
A lot of them aren't bot farms, they are run by human traffickers out of South East Asia. Then force them to run multiple scams on people every week. And will beat them if they don't bring in a minimum of $1000 USD a week. As has been verified by people who have been freed from some of the slave traders.
This needs more upvotes. Its well documented that a fair few scammers are victims themselves. For more info see, among others, Last Week Tonight on Pig Butchering.
Yes, Run by Steve bannon and funded with American money
More importantly: not Russian
The Russian influence perception was propagated by people who didn’t want you to think about the fact that American oligarchs were doing the very same thing
Alexander Nix was the CEO, not Steve Bannon. Bannon was a VP. Christopher Wylie claimed "Bannon was Alexander Nix’s boss" but that was conjecture, and what Bannon was really in charge of was U.S. political campaigns. It's quite common to have senior consultants or VPs run divisions, but Alexander Nix always had final say.

Recently had to break it to my 62yo brother with 7 teeth that this was who was messaging him on insta, not Scarlett Johansson.

Surely it’d be easier to run a bunch of VMs with bluestacks than this, right?

I'm always baffled that this is what botfarms do instead of setting up one server with virtual devices. Seems like unnecessary hassle.

Because each of those contacts requires human intervention at some point. One size fits all doesn't fit anything.

Some apps are good at picking up they run in virtualization and not on an physical device
