Every year my highschool friends and I gather together for a sleepover weekend ( loong weekend, usually 4 days) of gaming, ttrpg, movies, food and various activities. We stay at a small house one of us own in the middle of the country, and women/children are forbidden to attend. We re all 40/41, known each others since we were 15/16.

But otherwise go on ebay and grab a gameboy, invite your friends for a sleepover (or a lateover if everyone prefers to sleep in their own beds), go slide down the slide at the playground. You are an adult with a credit card, no one can stop you!

My coworkers and I were picking up several dozen computers from our staging area (temporary suite rental) to deploy at one of the satellite offices. It was their last day before college, so we stopped at the playground next door and climbed the rocket. 3 adults squeezed into the top took some effort. We scraped our group nickname into the paint in the cone.
It's still there. I should see if it's been repainted.

I just picked up an rg35xx off of Amazon and it's amazing. Came pre loaded with almost 7K games. I do miss my old Gameboy but being able to play all the SNES games on a handheld is awesome

Technically we do not understand how time works in such a way that we can definitively say that Now is real. There are theories of time that suggest that the past, present and future are all there at all times. And that it's just our conscious minds that perceive a now. So you may have never left that Blockbuster. You could still be at the McDonald's party. You are forever eating too many cookies and drinking soda and staying up being too loud with your friends. You just can't see those bits.

I stopped playing my Gameboy because I discovered a PC. I stopped using VHS because of DVD, I stopped going to the store because there was a vending machine and then post. Then I stopped doing a bunch to have a kid where the current equivalent I started doing again with them. What I miss, was the time and ignorance.

I get that people really lean into the "it's the nostalgia and being young" bit. I do think though that a lot of the replacements are fundamentally different experiences. Streaming one of 1000 movies is not the same as rewatching 1/25 tapes that were good enough to purchase. Getting three pounds of taco bell doesn't hit like an Ortega night. Etcetc.

Yeah, totally agree, I get frustrated when progress means a less of an experience. I don't tend to stream, I still buy because the quality is still superior. Ironically, my kid watches the same few programs over and over on streaming despite having so much choice.

I fucking loved gym class, at least the playing sports and competing side of it. Running the 2 miles was a bit of a drag but I could tolerate it. Had a pretty solid time but never really pushed myself. I wanted to play real sports, not see who was the best at exercising

I was one of the fatties who often got voted to the teams last and was designated goalie because there it didn't matter I was slow - still got plenty fun memories about gym class, especially in primary. Those parachutes were dope, it was fun seeing others bail or excel, we laughed a lot. Wasn't all bad.

Most people do... I guess the obesity epidemic really has gotten bad if now most kids hate playing. Gym was just 2nd recess. The only game I didn't like was baseball, honestly, but me and two other friends asked the coach if we could walk the track instead and he was cool with it. RIP Decker.

Absolutely not. I'm am a GENx 90's kid and simply remember GYM class as just an endless excruciating hell. Nothing to do with my physical fitness, at 47 I have a BMI of 22 at 146 pounds - while I'm fairly certain all the bullies from GYM "class" are probably on their first heart attacks by now.
