Guy on the right is* married 72 years - his wife passed away 8 months ago. He's 92. The other guy is also 92. The two of them had a great conversation right here next to me for awhile.

Most dating relationships these days don't last 72 days. Marriages don't last 72 months. The man on the right talked about his wife so much. Yet it's rare now for people to even tell you they're married. I want to be the man, that after I die, my spouse can't stop loving me. I want to be the man that still madly loves his wife if she passes away first.

This was a conversation I needed to hear.

*He still considered himself married to the woman...

I know your intentions are good, but it is so rude to take pictures of random strangers without their permission and post it on the internet

Oh man, I forgot I installed the facebook simulator version of imgur.

My grandfather was married 66 years. His neighbor was married to his wife 62 years. They became best buddies after their wives passed.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I have been married 36 years. It has been easy and hard but we have honored our vows and stayed together.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Grandparents - 55 years, Grandparents - 62 years, parents - 40 years. It's a lot to live up to.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It takes a lifetime of commitment, but at least in my case I feel its worth it (21+ year so far). :)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ditto - Grandparents D 55 (Grandpa passed decade ago), Grandparents M 68 (Grandpa passed couple months ago). Parents 40 yrs and counting ;)

Both grans still living & mid 90s btw!

Like me, but no doubt a well-matched lifetime companion is a better thing.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yeah, I can agree with that.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Have my 10 year anniversary today. We have been together 17 years total. It can happen. Just remember it takes work on both sides.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

After a while, each other is all you need.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I have been married 16 years with 3 kids. He is my life, and he makes me feel like I am his. :)

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Cool dude, but just a heads up, get some chap stick for those lips bro, looks painful

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Read that as cheap stick, and thought it was a euphemism for a low cost male hooker, and then I thought you were suggesting OP blow him.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Divorce rates have actually never been lower in the us than they are today.

9 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 3

"NEVER been lower"? Bullshit.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

See the link below. Maybe the rate was near to 0 a long time ago. But the rate is the lowest in 40 years.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Here's a source to back @Krellebabz up

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Isn't it just because fewer people are getting married nowadays?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But how am I supposed to shit on people and say no one can stay together anymore, damn young people.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

That's because everybody got divorced already

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

from an evolutionary perspective the cultural development of monogamous marriage is probably something I''l read about tonight.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Marriage is the leading cause of divorce.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

You can't get divorced if you never get married. http://i0.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/022/138/reece.JPG

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You never see unmarried folks getting divorced, after all! We've found the problem!

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

In the last 40 years or so sure, but still way above what they were prior to that

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

This is due to the introduction of no fault divorces in 1970; before that, it was hard to get a divorce, even if abuse was involved.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Never? It was illegal at one point (except for the rich I guess), so the rate would have been hovering around 0. Also it was low before /1

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

no-fault divorce because back then there were only certain allowable reasons (like cheating). You couldn't just divorce someone because /2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

you were miserable. That's why the divorce rates exploded when no-fault came in, because suddenly everyone who'd been trapped in awful /3

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

marriages had a way out. Now they're settling back down to a more normal level. /4

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also make note that his pants are at a reasonable height. Amazing fellow.

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 2

Old people have a lot of alarming things going on downstairs, you need to cut them some slack on this one

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Maybe you think it's rare, but it's not. divorce rates are going down, people are courting later and longer.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I would be that woman. I wish I could find that man. I thought I had then he left me and knocked up his best friend two weeks later.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm almost at 20 years with my wife and I hate even having to spend a day without her. She's my heart and I love her so much.

How to get around the selfie rule....

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

ha...it legitimately was a selfie I texted to someone about the story.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 10

I don't know why someone down voted you. I up voted you. This story is adorable. I want to be that man.

"Im planning to be the guy that still loves his wife after she dies first" holy fuck does that sound ominous out of context

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Married 10 years, 4 mos & 5 days. He died 4 mos ago today. Today is our anniversary. I'm still his wife.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My husband and I are celebrating our 10th today!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My father died 4mo's ago at 87--my mom died 25 yrs before and Dad was never the same...he is finally with my mom who he loved so dearly.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Who cares if it's a selfie. Let's focus on the positive message. You bunch of nitpicky fucks.

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

As someone who recently just ended a relationship.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

My father is like that. He wouldn't consider dating another woman.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Married 31 years. We have our ups and downs. Never go to bed mad at each other. Honest talks are key along with not always being right.

9 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 2

My grandparents were together almost 60. My grandma passed first and it halfway destroyed him. I can hardly imagine the grief.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Never go to bed mad at eachother" is a golden rule in our marriage.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

I've never understood how that would work. You have to stay up all night? Every night for a week?

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It's meant to be like, don't stay angry at something that is truly miniscule. If that person died in their sleep, you would probably feel

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Guilty about fighting and would say "it wasn't worth fighting about" so apply that logic while they're still living.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So make up before you go to bed. But you both have to forgive that's the important part.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's about getting over pride and talking issues out as they happen. Issues can't always get solved on the spot, obviously, 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

but it's important to make sure that we both know we're actively trying to solve them as soon as they appear. Hence, by the time we're 2/3

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

in bed the situation is a lot less tense. We're no longer "mad", even though we know there may still be work to do.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also agreed - we just celebrated 34-years together. Communicate and get some away time as well.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I like the romantic way you wrote this. In reality, he is still bitching about her cooking.

9 years ago | Likes 191 Dislikes 19

This reminds me of a guy I used to work with. He'd complain about his lunch every day, saying that "She know's I hate ham!" Found out his >

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I get asked why I'm not married yet a lot. Simple... if /when I do, it'll be with my partner for life. That's not something I take lightly .

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

most divorced people thought that too

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

As someone who just married. It is cliche to say, but i married my best friend. I can't see the future, but I am in love with now

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

I chocked at "fat head"

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

To be fair more like 40%

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

which proves that this is all bullshit for attention. I can't fucking stand these posts.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's not a bad looking fat head... also, much easier to take creeper pics discreetly if you're in the shot. Not that I have experience...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

At least he has a majestic beard

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 13

What did I say :c

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Welcome to today's imgameshow, where the only loser is you! And the first question is: what did you say?

Looks like the answer is "shit"

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 5

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yes, perfect application of this

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Honestly, though, my photos are always the left version. My boyfriend's photos are both the left and right versions. I think it has more to

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

with how confident you are in your physical appearance than gender thing.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's a good point. I don't do selfies because I always look hideous in pictures, haha.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Me too! I don't think I'm particularly bad looking nor particularly unphotogenic, but selfies always look terrible.

I really enjoyed this post until I read this comment.

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 3

You mad bro?

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

nope.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 11

When you watch the news and someone is being interviewed, is the story 50% about the interviewer?

9 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 6

He directly talked to me about my life...so in this case yes

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 60

You highlighted an interesting individual, a rarity from your own words. 92 years is impressive let these men have their moment

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

9 years ago | Likes 1023 Dislikes 59

But it does add some credibility to a post. Alot of fakes digging for attention.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Guilty. But it wasn't originally a story. I just took a pic and then thought about what he said later. Couldn't redo it.

9 years ago | Likes 248 Dislikes 26

You just took that to the chin and owned it. Mad respect.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What gruntstyle shirt is that?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Just giving you shit It was either that or commenting that technically you are the "guy on the right" and don't look old enough for 72 years

9 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 2

fair enough. only reason I kept me in it was it was originally him talking directly to me. He made it 100% me. Didn't know it mattered.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 8

Crop maybe?

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

No. the man told me the story about him for me. The whole context was me and this man. I'm in the story.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

No shit, Sherlock.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 6

So maybe quit bitching about women when it wasn't even a woman.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

It was a joke, as was my previous comment. For a Sherlock you're kind of slow.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Mmmm hard to tell with all the women haters on Imgur

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

That really doesn't apply to this type of picture, where you sneakily photo someone while pretending to look at your phone. Nice try though.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's mostly about the similarity of how this picture is framed to the comic.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's this thing called a joke. Maybe it's a new internet thing. I don't know. Look into it though. They're fun.
