I don't want to be the one to say this but I needed to. I'm like the only English competent person in my new department and it is extremely frustrating to have to go back between coworkers, customers, and my actual duties to translate. God forbid I talk about it because I'll be bombarded with xenophobic accusations and American nationalism like the last guy that brought it up. Rant over

Imo every people who want to live or work in a different country should learn the native language. Integrate and communicate.

This also goes for English people as well. You want to work in Brazil? Well then you should learn Portuguese asap.

Well he did clarify that you only needed to comprehend some English. Poor spelling and grammar falls in that criteria

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

U don't need to write perfectly in order to understand the language at a basic level. OP didn't ask for perfect language skills, just basic.

I don’t go to Italy or France to work even though I’d like to. Cause I don’t know the native language at all

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Lmfao what the fuck. Those guys have a lot of English too. Have you even tried to be sure? What if you go as an English teacher?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's the exact reason why you don't go to Italy or France to work? Seems like a lazy excuse. Get up and go!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

After you're done with that will you use a good language learning tool?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You should avoid calling English the "native language" of the US.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Last I checked. I didn’t mention Even mention the English language. It would be inaccurate for me to not call Italian and French native

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Very well, you should avoid the implication that English is the native language of the US.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s the dominant language but seeing as how I was speaking of two languages native to the two countries I mentioned...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean you can make the mental jump from “native” to “dominant” yes? The parallel was close enough to be relevant
