In September, my fiance and I were outside and saw this little girl(?) crawling around on our hose.
This guy was really thinking about eating her
So I abducted her and put her in a jar
Because I thought she was a luna moth caterpillar
Sorry for potato pictures, you can kinda see the cocoon in this one, but it was really hard to take a picture through the glass and I didn't want to disturb her.
She came out of her cocoon!
At totally the wrong time. I feel awful... I had her by the open window, because they can apparently hibernate for the winter, but there was a warm spike in the last week and she must have thought it was spring and now it's cold and wet outside.
But she's pretty.
I couldn't get her to open her wings to take a better picture
But I'm going to release her tomorrow morning/night, depending on the weather.
Also, I can tell she's a female because she doesn't have fuzzy antennae.

Dont butterflies rest with wings closed and moths with wings open? Im too lazy to research anything though. This is very cool.

This is really neat. But I think I would have sat and waited to see what the frog would do. Equally as interesting imo.

Yeah, the toad lost interest when he realised the caterpillar was literally longer than him and went back to eating ants.

I think we all know who's buying the hoses in this relationship.

IT WAS ON SALE. Also a POS. I'm totally spending more money next year.

With a stick and a leaf. To recreate what she is used to.

I did do some research, its the type of plant her species likes to eat. Although, within about an hour of putting her in the jar she spun(1)

her cocoon, I think she was on the ground because she was looking for a place to do it. (2)
