"Human beings may not be perfect, but a computer program with language synthesis is hardly the answer to the world's problems."

But DRM was almost completely removed 24 hours after any software release, so by comparison, DRM was actually better.

i literally came to the comments to post about neuro and evil being the AI i do support and i see this :)

I don't think they are the worst tech development since DRM. I believe LLM's and the associated tech is extremely useful in the right hands. It should be kept tightly controlled just like many other extremely dangerous things. We don't go around letting everyone play with free, easy-to-download uramium because we know it could have dire consequences. The same should be for the big GenAI stuff

Heres the kicker, I'll show you how we can teleport aliens to another dimension while you show me the GenAI stuff.

I’d love a Terminator parody where SkyNet is a thinly-veiled Grok knockoff and all the cyborgs keep running into walls, bursting into flame for no reason, and backing into a lake like a plutocrat

Where there's a T-1000 that's like just stuck on a stairwell screaming 'MURDER ALL HUMANS' like Bender stuck on his back

Microsoft’s own study of their own AI found that over reliance on AI diminished the users critical thinking abilities. That’s not good. Then Microsoft decided to push ahead anyway. It is in your own best interest to understand how to use these tools and then not actually use them.

I can play a gacha mobile game and not spend any money. But the simple act of playing it is rewiring my brain without me realizing it. AI is the same.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Plot twist. We kill ourselves off l, when "skynet" awakens they find the planet a tomb.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some nights when I try to sleep I get an idea stuck in my head. I was plotting out a new Terminator script that the over reliance on AI in the coming years made too many people complacent. So it didn't need to do a major take over initially, it just needed to prompt the right people to commit violence against their fellow man. Be it individual or government.

"We should take a device that was originally created specifically to calculate correct data, and burn a shitload of resources to make it into a procedural bullshit generator"

and so, LLMs were born

There was a concept of U.S. Air Force colonel, Col. Tucker "Cinco" Hamilton and never really tested that human operator as an obstacle when the missile system was tracing things, then pointed at it. although it's not tested. it will be the first checkmark to know, humans are in trouble.

I won't be the reason for the AI apocalypse, but I'll be tops on their hit list for the things I do to chatbots.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've proven AI answers incorrect too many times to trust it without real sources. My favorite thing to do with AI is ask "are you sure?" and watch the engine correct itself.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And there is a certain subset of the population that is 100% convinced that if you just add in that "are you sure?" by default into your query you are guaranteed to get an answer that is correct, somehow.

I use AI for nothing. In fact, my work asked who would volunteer to be the AI coordinator, and I took the position to slow down the implementation of AI into our work.

I find it useful for literature reviews and helping understand the current state of research. Also for troubleshooting code while in the lab. But everything is double checked.

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

If you have to double-check its work anyway, it seems more efficient to just skip using the AI.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You find the tool useful, because it is. :)

We're not gonna make it, right?

1 year ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 0

Poor people won't. Rich people's plan for surviving climate change is to kill 90% of us, since the largest producer of greenhouse gases is 'providing the plebs with enough bread and circuses to keep them from killing us.'

1 year ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

They made a movie about it called Snowpiercer, maybe you'll be lucky enough to be the 3% they keep around to wash their asses and act as reproductive fluid receptacles.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well, they made a show too. But also many many many films and books about a dystopia driven by greed and/or depleted resources.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

While I did like the show, I felt like it wasn't quite the powerhouse the movie was at showing literal classism parallels.

It’s an important societal moment where many people are publicly revealing how stupid they are. They don’t know what an internet search is, they dont know what a legitimate source is, they dont know what basic competence is. And they’re declaring it loudly in public and in the workplace.

Somehow can’t caption their own pointless vacation photo on social media: ask LLM to do it

Can’t send a basic professional email with professional judgment and insight: click the LLM automatic reply button.

We'll be fine, we survived the "TV IS GOING TO ROT YOUR BRAIN!" "GOOGLE IS MAKING THE KIDS DUMB!" "CANNABIS MAKES YOU WANNA MURDER!" "COMPUTER ART ISNT ART!" we've survived the luddites being scared and we've survived worse.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 9

I people always say "this time it's different," but . . . this time it's different.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, unlike with tv and shit people back then weren't imagining the TV could like take them into it and create a fake world or some shit (whatever idiots are pretending AI can do today). Like someone posted here he's scared for when AI will take over their life. Lol. What?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Its not btw. Its literally not. As much as we want to complain about racist chatbots, they're nothing compared to the medical leaps we're taking with this stuff. Yes, this time its different. The luddites seem to come from the left and the group of people fighting for improved healthcare want to reduce our capability to do so because corrupt people exist in the world. No, its not different. Its the same reefer madness shit.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

You can tell when a person has no clue what they’re talking about when they claim LLMs have “medical” uses.

Your earlier comment is the fallacy where you claim that people made some false claims in the past, therefore, current claim (about something totally different) is false

People aren’t talking about AI taking over the planet they’re talking about the usual draining garbage effects of people using shitty tech for shitty results and an exponential increase in emissions and internet noise

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

The first article link you posted shows, again, that you have no idea what you’re talking about. I won’t bother clicking the others.

-False equivalence between totally different things supposedly opposed by luddites
-Worthless articles hyping on trivialities that are by definition easily attainable by other methods (e.g. data basing and referencing symptoms)
-“just google it” aka cognitive bias cherry-picking where you latch on to whatever nonsense (usually marketing) appears to support claim

I'm considering giving up on the internet altogether. If it weren't for memes and looking at titties, I'd be long gone.

It’s not just a problem with ai. The entire internet will definitely boil a few lakes from everyone’s doomscrolling.

Butter to support real artists....but, to be fair, also highly dependent on Garfield's boobs

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

yeah but some points, i got no money and real artists take days to weeks to deliver and a lot of them have horrible to subpar skills.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

or you could draw the picture of Garfield with giant boobs

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

no no, this is the only good use of AI

Depends does Garfield only have two like a human or like 8 like a cat?

Man, I only used the free generators in the very beginning for absolute evil while you still could and even the best miss piggy in a cop uniform sucked more than any $15-25 doodle from some punk kid ever could be.

It's garbage because the internet is garbage

I'm a traditional digital artist

I was gifted a pirated copy of Photoshop 2.0 at 15 years old

I didn't bother putting much visual art online before AI, because I knew ai was coming in 1998

Hey hi, I'm maybe one of the smartest people on the internet because I've been here so damned long. I will not be mastering ai

But I played with it early like I said, enough to know it's just a money grab attack on your language center and the way all art is described.
