So I do stupid shit to pass the time.

I went from the service industry (chef, manager, and everything in between) to the world of office people. In the kitchen it’s easy to get people’s attention and participation. Because if it doesn’t get done then we all suffer. But in an office setting it’s usually not that way. So I’ve taken the tactic of doing things that are just dumb enough to work. Usually. I give to you The Haunted Box of Zulthar.

A coworker/friend placed this box in my office along with a doll (think Annabelle meets Raggedy Ann) as a joke. The doll makes its way around the office to be found by people and then relocated. So I kept the box and started decorating it. In my position I have to get people to turn in paperwork for audits, reports that I have to knock out. Which can be problematic since it’s me that it falls on if others don’t turn in their shit.

So I created the Haunted Box of Zulthar where I put little gifts for people who bring me their paperwork. Right now they are selfies of me telling the person that they’re awesome. *note: I haven’t studied Latin since High School so I got this translation from google so don’t break my balls if it’s wrong.

I know it’s stupid but office work can be mind numbing and painfully boring sometimes. So if I’ve got something stupid that helps break up my day with a giggle, no matter how stupid, then I’m more likely to make sure I get that boost.

It’s a fine line between quirky or amusing and kind of creepy. I work hard not to foist my weirdness on others and I try to keep it in check. So far it hasn’t been a problem. This is a great job and I actually enjoy it but fuuuuuuck after the military and working in a kitchen for over 15 years. Sometimes I want to pluck out my eyes with a spork. It’s been almost 3 years now and I’m still adjusting.
