inform7 is surprisingly capable as a language--the problem is the experience for the player is terrible.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

UDK? How old is this. UE4 has been out for like 6 years now. Use UE4.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wrote a text based adventure in python that randomly generates a map, placement of enemies and items. For my intro to python course.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All I think of when I see Unity is The Slaughtering Grounds.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dear god stop lowering the bar to entry for games. There's already enough garbage out there I have to sift through.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I imagine it would still take me many years to make my dream rpg though.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So where's the game OP? You favorites this for a reason

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

no mention of blender? It is like a collection of most 3d tools mentioned and it's bloody free!!

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The only tool that really matters is determination. If you have it you will be able to make stuff. So if you really want to make games,

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

don't wait. Just get started! Learn from mistakes and tussle with the basics until you've got a good understanding of them. You can do it!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah, Crystal warrior keshia, that's a quality game. Oh wait it's a twenty line POS text game?

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

in spite of the "quotes" auttoton put on "programming" theres no logical reason why drag-and-drop wouldnt be able to do everything a "real

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

programming language could do. the quotes may have been for them being scripting languages, but i was VERY impressed when i first saw drag

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and drop programming in action. personally i think its the future, or at least a big part of it.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I heard rumblings that the MMORPG SWTOR was designed to enable drag-and-drop dungeon development. (if not more than just that)

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is a pretty dang fantastic resource!

7 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 4

I saved it to use, but never did

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same people that downvoted yours I imagine.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unity is awesome. I started with it 3 months ago and have already made a complete arcade game.

A lot the points of advice are wrong or poorly qualified

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 5

I mean if you'd care to share your favorite free game creation engines I'm sure everyone would appreciate the constructive input.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I don't know, I do professional game development and my tools of choice are Unity3D, Inkscape and Blender. The answers seem pretty solid.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

FL Studio is not free, SketchUp is not free, Maya is ultra expensive, OBS kills Debut. Again, answers are pretty badly researched

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

FL STUDIO? FREE? If you want a free software use LMMS, it's actually really good.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There's not much about FL Studio that is free. It's hardly functional free.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep. For that price, get Reaper and then use the remaining 29 bucks to celebrate how you just got a way better product.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They need either a drag and drop, or text based game maker for Android...

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Excuse me but their forgetting about humanities greatest achievement, RPG maker

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've got rpg maker VX ace, but I've only ever started it up once. got any real basic tutorials?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah never used it just knew about it

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

, is a sin. (There, fixed that for you.)

Reminds me of the time I put my kid in a Scratch camp. This kid gets up at the end and demos this game he supposedly wrote in his hour (1/2)

7 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

session. Kid gets award. I go home, download Scratch. The game is a demo that comes with Scratch. How did the teachers not know this? (2/2)

7 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

As someone who taught at a camp that had a scratch course, they hire some clueless people. One of the courses we had was minecraft modding

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

And the one teaching it had never played minecraft. I had to keep helping her while teaching my course.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This comment is an alien concept and makes me upset

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I agree, however Game != GoodGame

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Hey guys, Imma make the next Skyrim in RPGMaker

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You use camel case in natural language?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That was pascal case

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also named upper camel case.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Formally named Pascal case :p

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Would you prefer snake_case?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In order to make something more than a mod, you need to learn programming if you're going to use Unity, or UDK. Just sayin'.

7 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

Unreal Engine has a visual programming tool built in that's actually quite powerful. Unity has some excellent premium plugins for it too

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you're serious about that, then I highly recommend Quill18Creates on youtube.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Technically you can buy gameplay modules.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I agree, but you can make a huge mod that is basically a full game. PUBG and DotA to name 2

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

No. No you can't.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

In order to make a new game, you'll need functions that aren't pre-made, and those will have to be programmed. You WILL need programming.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That's not to say that you can't do a lot with drag & drop pre-made functions, but you'll hit a wall at some point.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

For 3D modeling and animation, I think Blender is free now

7 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but the animating aspect has less of a learning curve and more of a learning cliff.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The cliff

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Always was, if u dared to use it.

7 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Nope, it was commercial software prior to 2003.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It think the implication here is torrents etc.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It sure is! Was it not-free at one point?

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yes, prior to the crowdfunding in late 2002.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It has always been free.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Free and open source.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, it was commercial from 1995 until late 2002.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

now?

7 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Yes, it was commercial software prior to 2003.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It just feels unnecessary to say “now” when it’s been free for 75% of its life time

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But that was, like, five years ago!
