Lamb of god :) Chris Adler is a solid drummer for sure. Didn’t Randy Blithe damage his voice after the 1st/2nd album? I don’t remember the specifics, but I know his sound changed a lot for the album that had redneck on it….
If you're curious, the song is The Trooper by Iron Maiden. An outstanding band... Maiden converted several of my punk buddies into solid metalheads for the last 20 years.
Still pretty sure the only song I know from them is Unsung via Guitar Hero (I think) but I still listen to that song when it plays on the playlist. iirc, for the longest time I think I thought it was Ozzy singing because the vocalist they used in the game sounded a lot like him.
#16 The Sword, huh? (They make a few other appearances here) Sound is right up my alley, love that dirty, desert-rock stuff... thanks for introducing me to them!
I'm not 100% if it's technically metal but Poppy's latest music ventures sound a lot like metal or at least nu metal here's her latest song if anyone is looking for some modern metal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqVNYcaS-3E
Thin Lizzy made the cut! Fuck, yeah. And #20 looks like heavy metal Jeff Lynne, lol. But a top 20 list of best opening riffs would absolutely include 'Thunderkiss '65' and 'God Of Thunder'. I'm amazed I've never heard the latter as a walk-up song.

Man, AC/DC was so much better when they had a female vocalist

Yeah, Bon added so much personality... The replaced the voice well, but you ain't gonna match that spirit easily...

#40 ok... I'm not into metal but this one got me. The drummer is hyper and the guitarist shreds... what's no to love.

Despite COVID lockdowns being a weird time for musicians, that's pretty dope. I think this is one of my favorite covers:

Just saw them again in May. They were damn good.

Man, I forgot about Bon Scott in drag. Back when AC/DC was making more than just party rock.
W0lfsbl00d
Bon kept them wild... Shame we lost him and Cliff way too soon.

They split up but now there are rumblings of a reunion! In my top 6 metal bands.
W0lfsbl00d
If you dig The Sword try on some High on Fire, Orange Goblin, Red Fang, Baroness and Sleep, see how they fit.

Red fang and baroness are fucking awesome. I’m gonna check out the others cheers!

#OP, you have remarkably good taste in music.
W0lfsbl00d
I agree but he's missing Death and Blind Guardian... If Dio wasn't on this list too, that've been too much nonsense for me to handle respectfully...
ElvisParsly
Thanks, obviously so do you...

#9 Mother Fucking DIO I have somehow never actually seen this video.
TallynNyntyg
You thought this comment was about the band, but it was about he, Dio Brando!

I'd call it synth-metal. It's very reminiscent of The Birthday Massacre. https://youtu.be/tLOfluH8mgQ

I love those canucks, they are one of my favorite bands. Red Stars being my favorite song of theirs, and yeah this new Poppy sounds like them.
Shifuede
Definitely one of their top songs for sure. Walking With Strangers and Pins & Needles are both very solid albums.
