That is Laken Riley; she was murdred by an immigrant in Athens Georgia a few weeks ago. Her death is being used by Republicans for political grandstanding and to push a bogus narrative about 'massive crime' by immigrants to stoke the fears of their base. the reality is that the crime rate among immigrants is quite a bit lower than the native population. it's also curious that they aren't equally outraged by the ~40,000 gun deaths caused by their refusal to enact gun control.

~20 migrant related murders last year... each one is certainly a tragedy... as are the ~40,000 annual gun deaths that the republicans totally ignore. another tragedy here is that this incident is being exploited to create division/hate against a population that isn't even causing much crime... the rate of criminal activity among this migrant community is considerably lower than the rate among the native population.

Absolutely. It's not that anyone wants to say that the murder of any person isn't a terrible thing, but it's clear that the GOP does not give one fuck about her or her family beyond exploiting this one specific case to push a xenophobic racist narrative against migrants as a whole. They don't care about actual crime statistics or prevention, just using hate to rally their ignorant base more.
