I have 2 proper sarees. The Hubs and I were headed out to a burlesque show. So I chose to look up how to properly wear one. Spent almost an hour getting the tucking and draping correct.
We had a *Wonderful* evening, capped off at a popular NOLA bar with a bar manager who was a native of India. He took me aside to compliment me on my ensemble and my ability to put it together properly.

I didn't notice it myself, but others have pointed out that it's edited. Sari is the most common in my personal very American experience, but it's just differences in romanization. Wikipedia said "sadi" is another spelling, though I've never noticed that one in the wild before. Any time the original language has a different alphabet and different vowel and consonant sounds than whatever language it's being translated to, different spellings almost universally arise.

It is fake. Body editing apps and programs can do amazing work these days. She's still thin and stunning without the edit, but you can see when she turns to tuck the fabric in along the back, her waist is wider. This sort of editing is why so many girls and women struggle with body dysmorphia - the standard is unrealistic and the editing is almost undetectable.

While there are definitely apps that can re-shape bodies, they usually cause warping on the background (see example). While newer apps *may* be able to work around this, they would still have issues when say an arm crosses in front of the thing it's trying to warp. I'm not seeing that in the OP clip. Not saying it isn't faked, but I'm not seeing any of the telltale signs of fakery.

That's kinda my point. Both the apps themselves and those using them are getting better at these edits. Her waist size and shape change and there's a very slight blur around the edges when she moves from front to back, but otherwise, it's almost impossible to clock the edit. Past indicators of editing won't work on videos like this, and the result is people thinking this is an achievable body when not even the OP actually looks like this.

It's hard when you see how much "better" you look with those editing apps and filters. Like, I'm no beauty, but I know from the way people react to me that I'm at least average-pretty. I look like my mom and aunts did at this age, and I always thought they were beautiful, but seeing all your imperfections swept away by a snapchat filter is nice, & then it gets addictive. You don't wanna see the real you anymore, because sure, you're "fine" but you COULD be stunning with just a liiittle tweak...

Guys can get a little bit of leeway with weight gain, because men's appearance is less strongly policed (or at least in different ways), but it's hard. People need to not make crappy comments about body changes. Had a coworker ask if I was pregnant in a very snarky, snotty tone a few years back and I finally snapped and said, "No, my mother died a few months ago and my boyfriend just dumped me, so I've been eating my feelings." Rest of the breakroom just GLARED at her.
